pretty impressive for mercedes given the state of the economy and the rather high price points of most models (most mercedes models start at over $50k).

but lexus was dominant? that's funny. if one can dominate with tarted up camrys (the ES is 30% of the brand) and soccer mom SUVs (the RX is 40% of the brand), then sure.

The only thing dominant about Lexus was low price point of entry models which gives them a broader reach.

Think about it, how many comparos has Lexus won out right in the last decade?

PatrickBateman- Sales are sales. They indicate nothing other than the amount of Lemmings a brand can attract.

While there are reasons some brands sell more, don't confuse volume with quality. While quality CAN be a driver of sales it rarely is, price is usually main factor in most decisions.

There's no fanboyism when stating the facts. The ES is a spiced up version based on the Camry. The GX is a spiced up version based on the Toyota Prado Landcruiser (which many American's have never even seen before). The previous generation RX was based on the Harrier. However, because they are rebadged or "refitted" it doesn't mean they are bad cars. They still are good quality vehicles.

But sales are sales, it doesn't matter.

It's like KIA-Hyundai beating Toyota in Europe. Could you honestly say Hyundai has more in their stable than Toyota? really?

I don't see myself in a Lexus, but the fact that their sales rebounded off of recession lows 19% despite all these recalls versus MB's 25% speaks volumes about Lexus' brand loyalty. It can't be denied that further quality issues might be a problem for the brand, but the sales numbers show that the Lexus/Toyota brand is still resilient.

If you look at sales of upper level luxury MB is King!

Lexus is still just a wannabe in this segment!
