RUMOR: Is Nissan Ready To Bring Back The 200SX, Take Down VW Scirocco?
Here's an interesting bit of news; Nissan may be thinking about giving the 200SX a new life.

Yup, that's right.

In the overflowing sporty, small-car market, it appears there could be room for a Nissan to slot in under the 370Z. And with word of Mazda bringing back the RX-7 we say, "why the hell not?"

Details remain quite vague, so, we'll have to wait and see if this actually pans out.

Can Nissan make a business case for such a vehicle when it will likely have trouble sourcing a proper platform for the rumored 200SX?

Nissan is poised to take on the reborn Mazda RX-7 and VW Scirocco with a follow-up to its 200SX coupé, insiders say.

The new two-door, which would effectively replace the 200SX that was axed in 2002, would slot beneath the 370Z to give Nissan a more fuel-efficient and affordable fastback to counter the Scirocco and Renault’s three-door Mégane.

The new Nissan would be rear-wheel drive, as before, but the challenge of finding a suitable platform on which to build it is proving difficult...

Just use the 370Z platform! It would make a great start to bringing back the 240SX(Silvia).

Sweet. We can't get the VW, I was looking forward to the RX7, and now this. I can't wait. I will own one of the two.

The sporty, small-car market is NOT overflowing.

The only direct competition are the aging, no-longer competitive, and front-wheel drive Mitsubishi Eclipse and the Scion tC.

Considering that the 200SX has practically no competition in the North American markets it could be a mediocre POS and still sell well.

Want to bet that the small sporty car market isn't overflowing? If Nissan makes that car rear-drive, give it a 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder and sell it at a price below 20k, then there will be something else to think about. I am waiting for Ford to start offering a 4 cylinder Mustang again, with the 4 cylinder turbo from the next gen Explorer.

They already have a engine for it, the new 1.6 turbo from the juke. They just need to tune it al litte bit more to around 210bhp.

Make the interior nicer and give it to Poore to sell as an Infinity. Throw the guy a bone.
