SPIED: Chevrolet's HARDCORE, LSA/9-Boastin' Camaro Steps Out From Hiding

SPIED: Chevrolet's HARDCORE, LSA/9-Boastin' Camaro Steps Out From Hiding
After what seemed to be an on/off, always rumored but never confirmed project, the big-daddy Camaro Z28 has been caught on camera.

But do not get too excited, since it seems that only one mule has been spotted it could either mean two things: 1) the development process has just begun OR 2) it is merely just a bunch of engineers just seeing what the Camaro is capable of.

I mean, you have to remember company's build wacky stuff all the time. Case in point: the BMW X5 V12 Le Mans.

Let's assume they are building this massive-motored Camaro Z28 though. First off, awesome. Secondly, we think its going to look a lot like the "Z28 Bumblebee" that made an appearance in Transformers 2 -- not that I saw the movie, but that's what its front clip looks like after doing some quick research.

We also do not believe that Chevrolet would be slotting in the LS9, ZR1 powerplant under the hood. More likely would be the CTS-V's LSA motor propelling Camaro passengers from zero to "Oh my God!"

What say you, SPIES? Cool news or merely "meh?"

The king of Camaros lives.

Spy shooters have captured the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 during testing, and this monstrous red demon is wearing huge tires, dual exhaust and performance fascia.

But this mule also has a telltale engine marking: a strip of paper indicating the venomous 6.2-liter supercharged V8 is underhood, and this particular example is using a slushbox...

No way in hell it will be 1300 to 1800 lbs lighter than the SS. That would put it at 2500 lbs, less than a Solstice and any Corvette and near a Miata.

In fact if it comes in any lighter than the SS I would be completely surprised.

I'm sure you have to drop a zero in those figures to be anywhere near accurate. 130 to 180 pound weight reduction might seem plausible.

A 130 lb to 180 lb weight gain is more likely than a weight loss. Bigger brakes, heavier duty suspension components, heavier duty tranmsision and rear end, and the supercharger system + intercooler will all make the car heavier. There isn't that much weight that can easily be removed from the Zeta based Camaro and still have it be a livable car. Heck look at the weight gain from the CTS coupe to the CTS-V coupe (or sedan) to see what the 6.2 SC LSA engine does to weight from the 3.6 DOHC V6. Add the difference to the 3.6 Camaro weight and you have a pretty good idea what the Z28 will weigh.
