With A $41K Starting Point, Would You Consider The Chevy Volt?

General Motors Co., the largest U.S. automaker, plans to sell its Chevrolet Volt electric car for about $41,000, said a person familiar with the plans.

Pricing and ordering details for the car will be announced tomorrow at 12 p.m. New York time by Joel Ewanick, vice president of U.S. marketing, at a news conference in San Jose, California, GM said today on its website.

and how isthis supposed to help the economy and environment at the same time....for 41k I would get me a used BMW M5, or a Benz, Audi, lexus GS, Infiniti M I can keep gpoing...the hell with saving gas the technology is way too new it will cost a fortune to fix when the warranty runs out(for most people it will be 3 years or less) so after taxes your looking at paying close to 50k for that mess..I dont see it

With a subsidy of $7,500 per car it starts to make sense. Remember, it's not just about the consumer saving money, but also about those who can afford it taking a leadership role. It's almost like purchasing local organic food vs corporate food, not exactly though.

$40k for a tiny Chevy, no matter how much technology it has, is a blatant rip off. According to C&D, GM would still be losing money on each one sold if the price was as high as $60k.

The Volt will launch with media fanfare, but I think it will be a failure in the long run. It is priced far too high and other than affluent greenies, this car will have little appeal to the mass market.

Even with subsidies, you are spending at least $33K on a car that can't go far, is limited to errands and close commutes, and will be helluva expensive to replace the battery when the time comes.

It also looks like a Camry to me... geeesh

Dude, You really need to go do some more homework on this car, its range and battery life.

With the subsidy the price drops to $33,500, and if you commute less than 40 miles per day you'll rarely need to visit a gas pump again. Am I the only one looking at these as positives? GM has been testing and beating this car and its battery to death for the past 2 years (the reason its taken so long to get to market) so I have high hopes that this will be an awesome car for Chevy.

And what most people are not telling you is that GM is planning on offering an 8 year/100,000 mile warranty on the battery...but then they don't want you to know that because then you wouldn't be scared of the whole battery thing

I saw in another article about this:
GM's $350-a-month lease deal is for 36 months with $2,500 down. Nissan's lease plan is $349 a month over the same period with $1,995 down.

I wouldnt buy one but I would lease it for that price!!!

Unfortunately I dont think the car will sell sure alot of the car is hype but its an excellent concept it should be more than the leaf as its more useful 100 miles on a charge for over $30,000 pretty useless over here. But based on the misinformed somewhat ignorrant responses of the people here who are the type that typically get roped into rediculous purchases anyway I guess it will sell well but the price at $33,000 sounds fine to me thats no more than a basic loaded Midsize family sedan.

Why don't you mention the tax credit you get on the vehicle...surely that has to be taken into consideration as well?

Here's a trick question...would you spend $32,700 on a Leaf!?! or ...350/month lease on either Leaf or Volt? Let's see who's really paying attention
