Who Said Going Green Would Save You Cash? Chevrolet Volt To Require Premium Gasoline NOT The Cheap Stuff

The Chevrolet Volt has been the center of news recently and to be honest, we’re a bit tired of it. Alas, one more piece of news has just come to the surface. It seems that owners of the Volt, after they have traveled the 40 miles or so on the electric batteries, will need to fill their cars up with premium petrol.

That’s right, premium. Drivers must pay at the pump in order to be a part of this Earth saving movement. So, not only are you paying a massive amount for the car itself, you are paying more at the pump. It seems odd to us that the small 1.4-liter 80 horsepower motor would need the high-grade juice, but we’re sure there’s a reason.

Close, but it would have to be a turbo-diesel-awd-hybrid for it to be a proper German car

add to that an $80,000 price tag for "quality".

Funny you should say that 009 I can tell you without a doubt that the GM is already killing the current gas motor for a diesel motor in two years!

gm has hybrid versions of the Escalade/Tahoe/Yukon,Malibu,Silverado/Sierra

What they don't have is a halo car that has no performance and looks ugly all in the form of trying to achieve a green image. But I guess it's not a true hybrid unless it is painful to look at/drive right?

You say you get tired of the same thing in the news over and over? Really? Really!?!?!? Please.

Well seeing as how it will get 100000000mpg it wouldn't really matter that you have to stick premium in this thing right?

In all seriousness, considering you won't be seeing very much of a gas station anyway in this car... how much does this really matter? If I'm on a road trip I think I can stomach the extra 20 cents a gallon.

According to GM's own press release, the Volt's driver is only going to have to fill the gas tank a few times a year. The engine in the Volt operates at a constant speed and does not "drive" the car. It only provides electricity to extend the range of it's on-board batteries.
So I doubt a few extra cents a gallon would matter. Besides, as an owner of this Electric Wonder, I wouldn't mind paying extra for a higher quality gasoline like Chevron With Techron to keep this high tech engine nice and clean.

As manufacturers seek to get every last bit of energy out of a gallon of gas with higher compression, direct injection, turbocharging, supercharging, etc, nearly all engines will ultimately require the exensive stuff.

Premium IS the new regular.

What is the 0-60 on this thing? if it's more than 9 seconds, it's a fail.

Yet another completely pointless hybrid. If the Prius is any indication, it should be a massive hit.

Wow. Its hard to believe we finally know how much the Volt will cost. $41,000 well-equipped before the $7500 federal tax credit. Or $350 per month for a three year 36 month lease, and $2500 down, at 12,000 miles per year. Check out online essays now on Chevy.

Hmmmm. I just bought a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant that gets about 29 miles per gallon. I paid $3000 for it. Lets do the math. $41,000 minus $7500 tax credit = $33500. $33,500 minus $3000 = $30,000 for gas in my Galant. So if your trying to save money by getting good gas mileage, whats the incentive? $7500 tax credit? Give me a break. Whoever buys this car is a complete idiot. There is NO incentive to buy this $41,000 piece of crap. I can see the Government restrictions based on the false religion of global warming is going to screw GM and everybody else.

By your logic I could buy a 1993 Suzuki swift and get 38 MPG for about $150 and save $2850. And just like your example it has absolutely nothing to do with this thread.

Really? Look at the Title of the thread imbisil. Oh and since you will need to look up the word imbisil, make sure you use the urban dictionary because it describes you better than the regular defintion.
