Whats old is new again. Going back to force fed 5.5 liter although with some new gadgetry to increase fuel conservation. Yay. Spend $150k on this or just pick up an old low mi S55/CL55 with almost the same performance for about $35000. Thats right folks save yourself $115,000 for the same cars.
Why your at it for that $115k grab yourself a used Diablo. Unless of course you have that much $ to burn and need to impress with the latest gadgetry.

I think the 2003-2005 models were not as well built and regardless of the performance, the car was simply not up to MB standards. The w221 (current) S series introduced in 2006 was specifically developed to address these quality issues and has become the best selling S-series of all time as a result.

$35,000 is not worth it if you are spending $2000 per year in upkeep.

@ quizz:
If you've owned a 2003-2005 AMG S model and Lived through the $100,000 depreciation in 5 years, I'm sure the current $2000/ per year upkeep on a depreciated model would make more sense to you. Especially considering no significant real world performance upgrade on new model.

Do you seriously think anyone who owns an S-class whether its the S420 - S65 really care about upkeep? I don't think so. The S65 is an exclusive high performance luxury saloon. The consumers thoughts are first and foremost exclusivity with a lot of power not the depreciation. Any exotic depreciates $100,000 easily.

To pick on a domestic for depreciation as history shows their cars are worth pennies after 5 years. Go look up an SL from 2003, the car is still $30,000 after all these years. It's already plateaued.
