PHOTO GALLERY: Has The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta TKO'd The Honda Civic AND Toyota Corolla?
With the all-new 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, all signs point to yes.
Agent001 was recently in San Francisco to take in all that the 2011 Jetta had to offer. And, from what 00R has heard, the feedback is generally good.

Not only does the car have a new, Audi-like look but the car does manage to cut costs. Of course there are some sacrifices associated with cost cutting, but from early reports that does not seem to matter when it comes to the 2011 VW.
You may wonder why VW has decided to scale back the Jetta's price. Well, the answer is simple. The fifth picture down depicts what the people's automaker found; consumers found the old Jetta's pricing a bit too aggressive. So, the company decided it was in its best interest to become a bit more competitive.
Keeping this in mind, does it appear that VW has created a knock-out effort with the all-new Jetta?

TKO'd them in what way?
By being the most conservatively styled of them all.

I agree. The Jetta is good looking and all, but it's bland... not that it's a bad thing; some people just won't admit it.

Much better looking than the last gen- 2nd to last pic clearly shows that.
Still, it's a somewhat boorish design and will probably sell better in the EU than here. If it's goal is to still be a campus cutie runabout than it has nothing to worry about......

While this design does not represent some dramatic step forward, for its class it is classy, functional and impressive in fit and finish, far more than Civic/Corolla/etc. I predict it will do very well. How about a Jetta R version to blow everything away, just for good measure?

Like the interior. Still prefer the body style of the previous generation and the one before that. The last generations looks more modern in the pic above.

Certainly looks better than the previous generation model and Corolla. Given a choice between Corolla, Civic and Jetta, i would take Jetta. Only thing is front end styling could have been better. It looks quite bland but then it has to appeal to lot of of different people. I am sure it will sell better than ever and also will do good in Asian markets this time.

A good competitor, definitely. A TKO?...only for those that believe that VW has no quality problems. At this end of the market, price and dependability rule.

Nicer than the bug-eyes on the previous gen but still a wallflower.

I have 2 issues with the new Jetta. 1) Front end styling is a bit bland.
2)The 2.0 115HP engine that dates back to 1993.
On #1) I can forgive and it's easy to spruce it up a bit later.
On #2) At least can they add Direct Injection to spruce ou the HP. Instead of 115 HP and 125LBS of torque they could probably get 130 HP and 140 LBS of torque with better fuel economy. Would it cost them that much more to do this. Please!!

I like the side profile a lot the interior seams to conservative and bland.

This VW looks much better than the previous. It looks more upscale with a dab of blandness. The interior on the top-spec Jetta's have always seemed to look more premium than economy.
As an arrogant thing to say, I have always viewed VW as an economy-entry level luxury brand.

The looks of this car are not the issue. What concerns me is the reliability. How is VW planning to cut cost and improve quality as well? If they built some of the most problematic cars on the road and sell them at a premium price (and make profits doing it) I wonder why they would change the formula?

Silly VW. I hope this is not a new direction for all of their designs. VW's are cool. I can't purchase one because I need something more reliable. That's what they need to work on.

It seems having great look comparatively, Volkswagen Jetta. I think the car is considerably larger than its predecessors.
