Rumor: Toyota FT-86 will be cheaper than expected
Last week, reports straight from Japan confirmed that the Toyota FT-86 development is working fine and we should see this car by November 2011.

This was confirmed by Dr. Shigeyuki Hori, Project General Manager for the Sports Vehicle Management division and Kazuo Okino. What we do know about the car is that it will be front-engined with rear-wheel drive and will be powered by a 2.0-liter petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

where on earth are these price predictions coming from? $16k is competitive... $29k is laughable

It better be. It's not fast and it's not a premium car. It's a Toyota so build it well and sell it at a well price. Fix the recalls then Mr. Toyoda won't lose anymore hair.

the vehicle is supposed to have 3 trim models...

the 150hp model sounds about right for the base model. possibly V6 avariant as well. (hopefully the IS350 motor) then again, they could flip on us and bring a healthy turbo-charged 4cyl which I wouldnt mind at all!

i wonder what name they plan to use, if it will be a Celica or a whole new model line. i prefer they bring back the heirtage of the Celica, which this would fit nicely

I have to call BS on that number. There is no way Toyota could produce the base model for 16K. I could see entry possibly at 19K. But that would be absolutly bare bones.

Front engine RWD layouts are expensive. Unless they go with MacPherson Struts instead of a Double wishbone...I dont see how they could produce this for a profit at $16K.

Not even Hyundai could produce this car for $16K...so how could Toyota possible do it?

Still I'd love to see them prove me wrong. Id have my next city commuter car.

All speculation. What Toyota charges in Japan may not be what they charge here. Further the engine size could possibly change for the US market. Lots of variables on the way to production. The fact is we know little or nothing at this point.29 grand and 16 grand. Gee maybe it might be inbetween some where(you think).Further if Toyota is using their own heads for the Subaru flat four it is possible they may get more then 150HP out of it. Didn't they get 190 out of their 1.8 for the Celica? Correct me if I am wrong on this please.

"Best Car" Magazine from Japan is super notorious for rumors and lies. Practically everything coming out of them is BS. This doesn't prove anything.
