Mercedes has run into trouble with the latest addition to its luxury car range, even as the German carmaker is trying to repair its brand and reach next year's tough profit target.
The upmarket division of DaimlerChrysler is offering $5,000 to US dealers to sell its R-Class six-seater, a highly unusual move just six months after launch.
Many dealers are passing the cash straight on to buyers, while subsidised lease offers are also available that make monthly payments on the $48,775 R-Class lower than several cheaper Mercedes models.
