2011 Ford Explorer: an SUV or a crossover?
In response to the question likely intriguing many fans, Ford has disclosed that the redesigned 2011 Ford Explorer will be an SUV (rather than a crossover).

But then this model is actually in an evolving subniche that is affected by a shift throughout the industry. The Explorer shares a front-drive car platform with the Taurus and will boast a fuel economy that’s similar to that of a crossover. Replacing the boxy SUV styling are clean, aerodynamic lines.

Looks like a mix of Suzuki XL7 and Land Rover LR4.

The 4 cylinder Explorer has a 2000lb towing capacity. There are cars with greater towing capacity then that. To say that this is a SUV is an abomination to the name. I consider it to be a crossover period.

I bet they put the for cylinder in there just to able the advertise the 30% gain in fuel economy over the V8.

BMW calls them SAV (Sport Activity Vehicles). Though the most Sport their owners do is drive to the Country Club.

I doesn't make a difference what they call it. The new explorer is just as likely to go or be tested off-road as the outgoing model, that is to say, rarely if ever.

I will say that it looks pretty good, but I'm not in the market for any suv or cuv at this time.

I really like to see some off road performance of this car I don't think is a truly SUV is more like a crossover that's all even with the copy of the Land Rover Terrain Response System , just let see videos.

It's a station wagon, for suburbanites who don't want to be seen in station wagons. That's why the auto industry created these things, call them what you may. My Land Rover can tow over 7000lbs if needed - and it makes light work of a 3200lbs Whaler.

"The Explorer shares a front-drive car platform with the Taurus"...It is a crossover by definition Ford can call it whatever they want but its not an SUV.
