Is Infiniti Readying An All-New Model OR Is It Just Covering Bases?
One of the great thing about patent leaks is that it provides insight into a company's pipeline. And, that's just what happened when Infiniti decided to trademark several model names under the JX name.

Let's see what we have here: the JX20, JX25, JX25h and JX30.

These all point to small displacement motors and a diesel variant. So, it is a possibility that the firm is readying up an all-new, fuel efficient vehicle for the U.S. market or the European market -- the U.S. patent move was just to allow the option to bring the model here IF it succeeds in Europe.

Additionally, C&D points out that its nomenclature hints that it could be a crossover/SUV-type vehicle due to the "X" in the name.

Do you want to get a hold of a small displacement or diesel Infiniti? What do you make of this, Spies?

According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Nissan has filed for trademarks for cars named JX20, JX25, JX25h, and JX30.

Infiniti says that it’s standard practice to cover its bases with nomenclature, especially since so many automakers use alphanumeric names rather than real words. And the company has history to back that up—in the past several years, Nissan trademarked and then never used WX35, PX35, and DX35...

Sounds like a small SUV. Hope its not based on that Nissan Juke or whatever it is.

Replacement to the long gone Pathfinder based QX maybe?

I REALLY hope it's not another SUV/Crossover type thing. It would be worthwhile for Infiniti to create a smaller than the G car. The G grew from the G20 into something that fits between a 3 series and a 5 series. More like a TL I would say. The JX would be great as a TSX sized luxury car since pretty much everyone has gone up in size. I keep BMW where they are since at least their exteriors don't look huge.

That said, the 20, 25, 25h, and 30 would all seem to point towards smaller engines which would be more suited in a smaller car with a Hybrid to compete with the Lexus HS250. But hey I could be wrong and they could be making a more traditional SUV 'a la' Pathfinder to fo up against the RX.

X in the name means sedan or coupe is out of the question. I think maybe it will be the replacement for the unpopular EX. I hope Infiniti make a good and similar rival to X3, Q5, RX and GLK market and not a tall luxury station wagon thing.

I wouldn't eliminate the possibility of a coupe or sedan because of the "X" designation. I would only say that the "X" most likely means some sort of all-wheel drive, either straight up or some sort of fuel/electric hybrid set-up. There has been rumblings that Infiniti is working on a smaller "activity" vehicle.

It could be, like mentioned above, a competitor for small premium suv's. It could also be the model designation for the Essence Coupe.

How did you get Diesel variant? JX25h would point to a Hybrid variant.

JX30 would imply 3.0 diesel motor introduced in Europe.
