Has AMG Gone Crazy Go Nuts? C63 Coupe, C63 Black, SLS Black ALL On The Way?
If you have been following AMG's pipeline in the past 12 plus months, you would know by now that the E63 AMG Coupe is just not going to happen. It was confirmed at the 2010 E-Class press launch and it was confirmed by Mercedes-Benz's U.S. CEO on Gary Gastelu's FOX Car Report.

But, Mercedes-Benz hasn't let us totally down, not yet.

That's because it is planning on bringing forth the C63 Coupe. Indeed, there is a God.

But wait! There's MORE! Autocar even goes as far as to say that there is an SLS63 Black in the works as is a C63 Black. Uh, awesome?!

Considering the C63 is largely considered the most fun Mercedes, we want to know:

Is a C63 AMG Coupe a better idea than an E63 AMG Coupe?

Mercedes-Benz is preparing to take on the Audi RS5 and fifth-generation BMW M3 with a powered-up version of its upcoming C-class coupé.

The new two-door, set for UK launch late next year, will be known as the C63 AMG Coupé.

It runs a combination of the company’s four-year-old naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 engine and seven-speed MCT (multi-clutch transmission) — a set-up that will also be used in a facelifted version of the C63 saloon due next year...

I'd prefer an E63 coupe myself..........

You'd think they'd at least make an AMG sport-pack for the E550 coupe.

The probable reason why there won't be an E63 coupe is probably due to the dynamics of the chassis. It would probably cost too much to tune the chassis, and put the car on a diet, in relation to the expected sales for the car.

You have to remember that, even if MB had intention of making an E63 coupe compare with the likes of a M3, RS5, CTS-V Coupe or the next generation 6 series, it would be compared to them. In that case, an E63 coupe probably would not have the dynamics to compete at a price that would make it competitive or financially feasible for MB.

Like boys in a school yard..."Mine is bigger than yours !" says MB, "Anything you can do I can do better !" says BMW, "My Dad can beat your Dad ! says Audi, "That's nothing, my Mother can beat my Dad !" says

So the 6.2 V8 will live on in E and C for some time. I thought the refreshed C63 will automatically get the new 5.5 TT V8 like CL and S but a detuned version. A 5.5 TT C63 with around 500 BHP would be a monster.

What I never understood was, why isn't any stock (ungoverned) AMG model (except SL black series), RS and CTS-V and many other cars with similar or more horsepower not able to hit +200mph like the M5 does (204mph to be exact). Is it the engine? transmission? aerodynamics? All combined?

I know it's a bit off topic but have always wanted to know what's so special about the M5 that can do that?

@Showtime: to my understanding, it has to do with the tires and what can be certified. Y rated tires max out (certified) at 186mph, so much of the time you'll see the *electronically limited @ 186mph stamped. (other limits can safety related by market -- like the 155mph limits in the US). But the engine -- especially AMG engines -- can definitely push the vehicle faster than 204.

Coinsidence that such a user name responds in defense. lol jk...

65s I have a lot less doubt that they can naturally hit +200mph but not as sure about the S63 engines. Either way, I don't see them advertised anywhere to what their natural top speed would be able to reach. I'd love to know.

But cars like F430, 911 Turbo, older gallardo can't seem to push past it along with many other cars.

The keep saying that there will be no E63 AMG but I don't believe it. I think in a year or two that they will bring it out with the new turbo AMG engine.

I prefer performance models over models that charge extra $$ for paint jobs (or lack of) and a few options like wheels and seat logos. BMW charges exorbitant money for a grey car. At least MB is coming out with different models that are clearly different from their counterparts. Maybe Toyota and Honda could learn something from these performance divisions instead of the garbled munadne boxes they supply. Kudos from me.

Well most of AMG are able to reach more that 200 and you will see a lot of videos of AMG in youtube doing that. An M5 abel to reach that speed will be out of warranty cause BMW won't remove the governor for you (the same apply to RS or AMGs). Finaly..all AMG, even the Black Series (evn Brabus with top speed of 211mph "limited") have electronic governors...which means that with proper susppension settings and aerodynamics thanks to the extraordinary torque of those engines, will be able to kill any aero-drag and reach more than 210mph with no issues, beside that, the weight and structural integrity of any MB helps a lot...but there is a lot dummie users that do not know that to strees the engine beyond red line is Bad for the engines, Sadly most of people that Drives AMGs Ms or Rs is just people with money to buy a good car but have no idea about how it works. A world without gorvernors would be a world with lot of broken engines....Imagine and CL65 no governor..is Bullet Train reaching 200 even before the engine reach Red line...sweet.

I don't know. I see the point of a high performance C class, 3 series, A4, IS...but as much as I used to be horsepower hungry, these cars have more power than I could ever use here in the U.S.

Wasn't it a year or two ago that Mercedes declared the horsepowers over?

I apologize. Thats what I get for multi-tasking. I meant to say:
