BMW To Equip New X3 With JD Power Friendly Cup Holders

BMW of North America was eager to improve several parts of the X3 Sports Activity Vehicle for the new generation that goes on sale in January. Not least of those improvements were the cupholders.

Old X3: Bad cupholders. New X3: Good, Starbucks-friendly, American-style cupholders right below the center instrument panel.

“That didn’t mean we could take over the design,” Wierda said while meeting with a small group of journalists at a Traverse City golf house during a break in the CAR Management Briefing Seminars. “But it did mean we could get good cupholders and we won’t get dinged by J.D. Power for not having them.

Thanks to JD Power and the American love of coffee and soda...we now have the Ultimate Cup Holder Machine.

in my last 335i, the cupholders were a joke. they looked cool but not at all practical. i didn't care much, because i didn't let people eat or drink in my car, except water and they were barely adequate for that.

cupholders in my x6 were just fine. though, the 135 has one decent cupholder but it's under the armrest which is not cool and then it's got that plug-in cupholder that's kinda worthless. though, to be fair, my '09 audi only has 1 usable cupholder too. the second one in the center console is so small that nothing fits in it. it will hold a can of soda but nothing the slightest bit larger.
