Rear-wheel-drive Scion possible in the future, says vice president
Scion may soon offer rear-wheel-drive, we learned from Inside Line’s interview with vice president of Scion Jack Hollis.

Scion was meant to show the passionate, indiscreet side of Toyota, but instead it has become mostly known for its cars’ driving dynamics that prioritize style, feature content and out-and-out affordability. Hollis said that a rear-wheel-drive car “could absolutely work.” He said that when looking at Scion’s entry into racing and drifting and the fun linked with it, it’s convincing that a rear-drive car would be great for Scion.

If Toyota was serious of a price around $16k, that puts the FT-86 right in Scion territory. It's more likely that Toyota does not know whether to sell the Ft-86 as a Toyota or Scion.

At the very least, they'll use the chassis and platform for a second model to bring down the unit cost per vehicle.

They should have a stripped down version with the 2.4L current Scion tC engine as the Scion version... and a tuned version of the new 2.5L for the Toyota version... The Subaru version will be the same 2.5L with a Turbo and All-Wheel Drive... that's what it should be...
