2013 Subaru FT-86 To Feature 200Hp Flat Four

2013 Subaru FT-86 To Feature 200Hp Flat Four

Subaru’s version of the FT-86 sports car could have as much as 60bhp more than its sister Toyota model if development plans come to fruition, according to sources in Japan.

The car is being developed jointly with the FT-86 which has been delayed until 2013 because Toyota wants to improve the fuel efficiency of the engine.

The car will use a retuned version of Subaru’s naturally aspirated 2.0-litre flat four, using a revised head to produce around 200bhp.

I don't know how much I believe this article. Since last week Toyota said that they would deliver the FT-86 in 2011 and it wouldn't be nearly as expensive as previously stated.

Does this Subie come with unintended acceleration? Does it also come with sticky brakes?

@F1_Driver

I'm sorry, were we supposed to be entertained by your bland sarcasm or the fact that you have an IQ that equivalent of a 2 year old? I don't remember any cases against Toyota about sticky brake pedals.

So basically Subaru will supply NA version for 200hp and FI version for 300 hp? Sounds good to me!
Now, is Toyota getting the same engine?

The Subaru looks to be shaping up quite nicely. I hope the sometimes vague steering and understeer does not transfer from the Imprezzas to this car.

Every stock car understeers. Just tune up sway bar and tire pressure for better F/R balance.

RWD setup of this car should help, compared to AWD of Imprezza.

Manufacturers tune the car to understeer for safety and liability reasons, thank Mr. Nader! The WRX and Sti understeer way too much from the factory compared to other cars in their respective fields.

All I'm saying is that if Subaru brings this car to the US, give it some balls and make sure it handles & corners more like the car looks than what they have tuned their cars in the past from the factory.

sorry, even subbies version will be rwd, I guess it can boast better fuel efficiency numbers then?

If this doesn't have AWD, then that's a game changer. No AWD and a price tag in the mid to high $20,000 will be a huge problem for Subaru because that's an already crowded segment: 370z, Camaro, Mustang, Genesis Coupe, proposed redesigned RX-7, BMW 1-Series, etc.

Subaru needs to put some form of AWD in this car, even if it's the basic powertrain from the WRX. Otherwise, this car will probably get buried.

I think you can disregard 1/3 of them: Camaro & Mustang - those don't turn; RX-7 - don't count on it.
