Different cars for different people. The GTI migh be slower, but it is a much more refined car. Not to mention allmost 10,000 dollar price difference between the two cars. Trying to directly bash another manufacturer for their creative ads just show your own jealousy.

Maybe Subaru should be afraid of the Evo 9 because when compared with the rapid Mitsi, The Subaru is an under-steering under-achiever, with nowhere near as much on-the-limit grip.

There is no denying the GTI is not a true performance car. It's all just marketing, which many of you seem to be buying. Who cares how refined the GTI is if it doesn't do the one thing it's advertised to do, which is haul? (p.s. I don't think VW needs your advice on how to handle this.)

Subaru isn't really trying to say anything. They are just trying to cash in on some of VW's recent attention.

If you VW-lovers watched those fast commercials, you'd notice it was VW that started the bashing--literally--of hood scooped cars, cars with fins, etc. How is that escaping you now? VW does 3 TV spots, and now Subaru does 1 print ad in response? VW's ad agency is earning its keep brainwashing you. Have fun in your porky 3300 lb. $30K front-wheel-drive GTI. Maybe they'll throw in a fast doll.

Take a cheap car with nothing going for it (ugly, full of low quality plastics inside, unreliable) and add a powerful yet low quality motor and you get a Subaru. A cheap otion to AWDriving.

Now take the opposite without the need to overpower the motor because you don't need to compete in a class of wannabes who can't afford a decent car... and you get a GTI.

Subaru only made a name for itself after it won numerous WRCs (only because the supreme Audi quattros were simply waaaaay beyond any other competitor ...so much so that they were disqualified due to their superiority and could not longer compete..thus handing the WRC to the lowly Subarus).

Subarus should stay at the bottom were they belong and don't even compete against VWs.

check out consumer reports: Subarus are as reliable as Toyotas and Hondas. I know....it's hard to believe. Have you driven an STI? I have an M5 and the STI is faster and more fun, no doubt about it. sure it rattles like mad and the interior is cheap, but the seats are fantastic. The new Legacy may be hum drum on the outside, but the interior has finally gotten on par with VW/Honda/Toyota. Subaru is one of the few mfgrs that remembers that weight is the enemy of all sports cars. screw the 4000+ lb Murcielago...the Legacy has a curb weight of only 3400 LB! It's a wagon that can do 0-60 in 6.0 s and cost less than $30k.
