Spot On Or Absolutely Foolish? Porsche 997 GT3 RS Vs. M3 GTS
Although this is one of those "does this even make sense" kind of comparisons, you have to remember, both cars -- the BMW M3 GTS and Porsche 997 GT3 RS -- bear a lot in common.

For instance, both are the hardcore variants on already capable performance machines. They both have lightweight components. And, both were designed strictly with the track in mind.

But at the end of the day is there really a reason to getting the M3 GTS unless your blood is pumping blue and white?

Find out as AutoBild gets the chance to find out.

The first comparison driving test involving the new BMW M3 GTS has been published by German magazine AutoBild. The opponent? Porsche’s own star, the 911 GT3 RS.

Before the showdown, AutoBild spent some time with the two cars, examining their strengths and weaknesses. The GTS impressed the editor Joerg Maltzan, not only because of his aggressive Orange Fire painting, but also because of the 8,000 rpm redline found in the GTS.

Moving onto the Porsche, the magazine was fond of the exterior visual elements, an aggressive front spoiler and a large, stationary rear wing, and last but not least, the large 19-inch wheels...

according to nissan propaganda yes, in real life? no, it's not even close. the gt-r was at least 6 seconds slower than the gt3rs around the ring according to independent sources. some people only hear what they want to hear. hell, it was 2 seconds faster than their spec-v version which is everything but a bargain.

aston martin, r8, wtf? you totally missed the point.

"Only a Badgewhore like me would want to spend the extra money on these two cars,"

the buyers of these cars probably owned an aston martin, an r8 or a base 911, and learned that these cars aren't made for racetracks.

Sorry, you are wrong....
The Porsche GT3RS is much faster than the GTR.
And according to CAR magazine, they think the M3 GTS even has better driving experience than the GT3RS eventhough it's slower.

You mean the needle spins faster to 8000 rpm than GT-R or 0-60 of 4.4 is faster than 3.4?

I think M3 GTS is for those loaded badge whores, strictly from performance point of view. The comparison just shows the gap between Porsche and BMW never get close.

im a huge fan of the gt-r and previous skylines but you cause a lotta drama to urself dont u? lol. the gtr1's a bargain car that's hella fast. in terms of build quality, prestige, and "badge" it's not even on the same plain. u rather save up for a better badge? porsche is up there whether u dumb american wants to believe it or not. it runs with porsches, ferraris , lambos and the likes but thats as far as it goes. many gtr drivers are aware of it and thats what makes it fun. u can thrash the car around and not worry about crashing because its not as expensive as its supposed rivals.

What Badgewhore said, +100. The Audi GT3 are M3 GTS are not worth the money for the lap times they produce. These are after all track editions.

I really believe Autobild when they claim that the VW GT3 RS has a top speed of 330 km/h, when Porsche themselves claim it can only do 310 km/h. It's either a typo or the VW gets an extra 20 km/h for just showing up.

That "VW GT3 RS" is one very capable car. Just because you haven't had the pleasure to drive one or own one doesn't mean you need to call it names :). I like it better than my turbo PDK actually, more nimble. People make fun of Porsche's online but in reality they hate to admit they like it.

Don't show up to GT-R/911 Turbo/458 meet-ups because everyone loves each others cars and enjoys the time spent around cars. Only the internet boys are the ones wasting their time bitchin' and moanin' instead of actually experiencing and enjoying.

all cars have flaws. the porsche is flawed because of its rear engine positioning? whatever they did its truly impressive and respectable. gtr is flawed as well. its not engaging and quite boring with almost no driving skills needed. people like you lol...its fast but its more playstation than anything. i love it to death tho but its not the best car. nissan didnt even develop the motor. its from kawasaki or something. using their money to hire other companies to do the work for them.that's ground breaking.
