Say What? WSJ Says New CTS-V Coupe Makes The M3 and RS-5 Look Like Taxis

Say What? WSJ Says New CTS-V Coupe Makes The M3 and RS-5 Look Like Taxis

Controversy can be a good thing, and there’s a fair bit of it surrounding the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, the new two-door version of the Caddy sedan with a 556-hp supercharged V8 forged in Mount Doom.

Is it better than a BMW M3 or Audi RS 5? Is it, or is it not, pathetic that Motor Trend and Car and Driver this month attempt to compare the CTS-V with these European performance coupes? Is the CTS-V’s styling – as angular as early Kraftwerk, a strange splintered diamond chip of a car – wonderful and heroic, or a fugly waste of photons?

Your right.

Very fast taxis.

I hope they never have to turn a tight corner.

1uberaudiR8..... Cadillacs have never been used widely as taxis any where. It is also a known fact BMW's ans Mercedes are still in use today as taxis mainly in Europe and as far as turning the CTS is designed to compete with the best.

He was being sarcastic.

His name alone should tell you he knows about Audis.

Some people are so slow.

I hope this guy is not a car designer. I can only assume he is attracted to the Acura design language. UGH.

You can keep your Cadillac - give me a taxi any day.

I have yet to drive the CTS-V Coupe, but I do currently own a 2010 CTS-V Sedan, and it's an immensely remarkable drive.

I recently drove the CTS Coupe, finding it as dynamically competent/exciting as anything I've driven in a decade (I also own an E46 M3, and the spouse has an Audi S4), and concluded the styling to be so strikingly handsome that it makes any/everything I've seen on the road look at least a decade old... Truly a Concept Car Fully Realized for the Road!

Personally, I have no need for another coupe, as I love my E46/M3, but if I were to buy one, it would have to be this one.

I will say this. The M3 is being given a bad image with Jersey Shore types and anyone else with blowouts and oversized sunglasses (guilty on the sunglasses). While the CTS-V is given a more mature owner image. RS-5 I see a lot of chicks and doctors own A5's, so I can't speak for the RS.

Yea, and Robert Gibbs said that people who oppose Obama "ought to be drug tested"

What the hell does what Robert Gibbs have to do with this thread? Judging from your "From out of nowhere response", I'd say Robert Gibbs might have a point.

But FWIW, I can't stand Robert Gibbs, and pretty much all of Obama's appointments.

It is priced against the M3, and RS5 so its not to far of a stretch to compare it to these cars. As far as the rest of the cars looking like Taxis this in my opinion is just a huge debate inciting statement again by this poster that in my opinion was taken out of context. Hes just saying the other cars arent as exciting to look at. The CTSV coupe honestly in person has immense presence its one of those cars that is polarizing but whether you like it or not it demands attention its very modern and futuristic without being overstyled it looks amazing in the flesh it all seems to go well together.

Get over it. It's a "pretty taxi". When are you always driving in a straight line. Big engine, little car. This isn't a new concept. The car doesn't have the engineering to be a competitor with any of the German ubercars. It will eventually have to turn a corner and all that horsepower won't mean a damn thing in a ditch.

there isnt one single current American performance car that doesnt handle well except if your counting maybe the Challenger which is just to long, heavy, wide and tall for its own good. The CTS-V by no means is a straight line missile it also handles very well ironically the MT test video stated that it had the best steering out of the group not to mention its ride and handling compromise was superb realistically it misses the mark as its transmission is a bit subpar by comparison but otherwise the CTS-V is HUGELY competitive effort from Cadillac, and anyone that cant see that is no car enthusiast. Im a big BMW fan but I give credit where credit is due and CTS-V merits alot of credit

lol and the irony of your statement is your obvious enfatuation with Audi the RS6 which is the closest in power to the CTSV in its last generation was regarded as more a straight line performance car, the new one in reviews its knocked because it doesnt handle as well as the M5 lol aaah the irony

I seriously suggest you watch the video in the link above and then you will see that real life driving is usually different from silly make believe statistical situations.

In the real world daily driving involves Rain, Snow, Sleet, Oily bits. Uneven Surfaces, Leaves and hundreds of other scenarios where grip levels at each corner is different.

So just watch the video and i will await your response

{ Be patient with the link as there is a 28 second advert before the real comparison video starts}

From a looks perspective, the CTS-V Coupe is simply stunning, That said the BMW and Audi are no dogs...just not almost shockingly different like the CTS...As a total package though I'd bet the BMW and Audi are the more refined of the group. Seriously considering the CTS-V Wagon when it comes out but my wife says I'm not old enough yet to drive a caddy...

The styling of the CTS-V reminds me of the group KISS - maybe more specifically pleather pants with studs. You can't help but stare at it and some people may see it as striking or futuristic but, many people think it's over-styled and garish.

lol your comments are always laughable they are always outrageous and foolish. For one Every car in the S class' competitive set is cheaper than is so your so your point is rather illogical as each car is roughly almost 10,000 or MORE cheaper than the S class so what are you talking about even 7 and A8 are nowhere near its price. The LS is certainly more expensive than the E or 5 with a base price running from almost $70,000 to over $100,000 so again no logic. Third the CTS like the TL and ES are billed as tweeners they are alternatives to both the 3 and 5 a4 and a6 but each brand has a car that CURRENTLY competes more directly with those vehicles the RL, GS, and STS. Its ok to not have to route for every BMW its just a review calm down, instead of wasting your time coming up with foolish arguments why not work on your rediculous PSYCHO bias....next...

Are you stupid ?

The Audi A8 is More Expensive than the S-Class when similarly equipped.

And the BMW 7-Series is Very Close to the S-Class again when comparing similar Options

Only the Lexus LS is cheaper by a margin.

Everyone thought the previous gen angular edgy looking CTS was awesome, but u see one on the road now and it looks lame even a previous gen c-class is better to look at. Same will happen with this edgy looking current CTS

The car looks good and sets it's self apart from the pack with it's looks. It out performs the Germans and Asian competitors 0 to 60 in 3.9 top speed of 193 mph has a longer warranty and cost less all at the same time.

again your comments make no sense for the record ACCORDING TO CADILLAC, NOT YOU the M3, M6, and S5(ironically) are all considered COMPETITORS for the CTSV coupe....., a simple stroll to their website will give you that......it is nowhere near the price of the M6 so yes it is priced against the M3. So next time you want to go on some rant about nonsense to prove ONCE AGAIN how foolish your comments are do some research before you ATTEMPT to prove me wrong.....
