BMW Announces Plan To Compete With The A7 And Panamera - But Why?
BMW will build its Grand Coupe concept car, the company's development chief Klaus Draeger said.

The production Grand Coupe will rival luxury coupe-styled four-door cars such as the Mercedes CLS, Audi's upcoming A7 and the Porsche Panamera.

The concept was unveiled at the Beijing auto show in April. Draeger said the production version will be positioned close to the 6 series.

Is it really going to compete with those? I thought that's what the 5 Series GT was for? The Panamera and A7 are a little bit more of a 5 door sedan, something the CLS and Grand Coupe are not.

BMW is already competing with the Panamera and A7. they have the 5GT this car competes with the CLS....and i hope to the heavans they DO NOT turn this into a hatchback because then the CLS will be in a class by itself

i think the 5-series GT takes on the a5 sportback... and that's why Bmw needs a new car to take on the CLS and A7.

Who cares how you access the cargo area or what you call it as long as it doesn't look like an AMC Gremlin and looks like it could be a normal trunk lid? If you think it's in different class from the CLS, then you must drive around with your rear open...uh, the car's I hope.

why would the A5 sportback compete with the fullsize 5 series GT that just doesnt make any sense...someone boosted that??? seriously

who says BMW never follows and if anything they are ONLY following the CLS

I think its the other way around
and IMO the A7 has NO type of comparison to the Grand Sport Coupe because its a hatcback and from the looks BMW's version isnt. SO please tell me how you can compare these 2 cars

1st:M5 V10 2nd:S6 V10
1st:X5 2nd:Q7
1st:X3 2nd:Q5
1st:5GT 2nd:A7

and really the only thing BMW has been holding down that Audi didnt copy was the SMG tranny and I was shocked. so it seems like Audi is trying to keep up wit the Joneses...but in any case who really cares what or who was first because if it wasnt for competition NONE of these car manufacturers be goin no where.

lately???? Hmmm thats words from a person that doesnt know cars. Name one instance where that was the case where BMW was the last to a segment especially since theyve mostly just had core models for YEARS...and other ones they were the first in their segment..nonsense..

Your right. Audi introduces turbos. BMW introduces turbos. Audi introduces FSI. BMW introduces FSI. Audi introduces MMI. BMW introduces a iDrive.

And it looks like B7Fan pulled all his comparisons from a BMW forum.

And bmwdrv you are that person that doesn't know cars.

1uberaudiR8- BMW had turbos back in the 70's...before Audi.

lmao at MMI before Idrive, Idrive was the first system of its kind in a production vehicle and the rest of your list is to RIDICULOUS to even respond to

@ 1uberaudiR8

and if you wanna be exact Audi didnt start doin MMI until 2004 and BMW started 2 years before in 2002 so who's following who again. see what audi does they use BMW for a Ghinny Pig to see how well it does and then copy it after

I think the car in the photo certainly looks like a serious competitor to the Panamera, A7, CLS and Rapide (if price is not considered). I don't see a point anymore though. They wasted R&D on those silly 3/5 series GT's.

Even a thought of making something costs money. Aren't photos like this hinting of a 3 series GT?

More proof BMW missed the mark with the 5GT.

BMW's losing market share. It looks like there going the way of Mercedes with every car being an AMG.
