2011 Infiniti G25 To Start Just Under $31,000

2011 Infiniti G25 To Start Just Under $31,000
Infiniti today announced a new addition to the popular Infiniti G Line, the G25 Sedan, which features a 2.5-liter V6 engine. It is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti retailers nationwide in September, joining the Infiniti G37 Sedan, G37 Coupe and G37 Convertible. It will have a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price* (MSRP) of $30,950 USD.

"With the new G25 Sedan, we're broadening the appeal of the G Line with a model designed to provide an additional choice for buyers looking for a true luxury sedan, but who might not need the higher levels of performance provided by our larger engine-equipped G37 models," said Infiniti Vice President Ben Poore, speaking at a media event at the 60th annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. "The G25 is positioned in the heart of the luxury sport sedan market, allowing us to bring Infiniti's Inspired Performance to a wider selection of buyers."

The new 2011 Infiniti G25 Sedan shares the same dynamic exterior, interior and chassis as the G37, but with a smaller displacement engine. The 2.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 produces 218 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque, versus the G37's 3.7-liter DOHC 24-valve V6's 328 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. The G25 Sedan comes with a standard 7-speed automatic transmission and is available in both rear-wheel drive and intelligent all-wheel drive. Three models are offered: G25 Sedan, G25 Sedan Journey and G25x Sedan AWD.

The G25 Sedan's extensive list of standard equipment includes leather-appointed seating, Shodo aluminum interior trim, 8-way power driver's seat and 4-way power front passenger's seat, Automatic Temperature Control, premium audio system with six speakers, XM® Satellite Radio (XM® subscription required, sold separately) and much more.
Other standard features range from 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, High Intensity Discharge (HID) Xenon headlights, 4-wheel Anti-lock Disc Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Traction Control System (TCS).

The G25 Journey model adds RearView Monitor, heated front seats, heated outside mirrors, auto on/off headlights, Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control and more.

"While the G25 Sedan serves as the entry into the G line, it still offers an impressive array of luxury features – from leather-appointed seats to satellite radio," said Poore. "With inspired style and performance – backed by our unique customer care philosophy, the Infiniti Total Ownership Experience® – we are confident the new G25 will attract a lot of attention in the marketplace."

These are going to put G sales in another bracket.

They should have started year 1 out at $29,950. That would have made it a 20k car instead of a 30k car.

Agreed. It would have startled the competition. Of course from the looks of the article they are including a nice list of standard items for the base model that is an option on BMW and MB

This model makes a lot of sense in light of the competition.

This is just for people who want the looks of a luxuary sports sedan minus the sports i will pass (218 hp) it needs to have at least 250.

Dunno about that one. The last time I looked the 2.0T in the A4 outsold all other variations, and the Lexus IS250 outsells the IS350 by 8 to 1.

There obviously is a market for the car out there. Now just how much it depletes the G37 is the question.

@UAW

That's the point. There is a reason why Audi, BMW, MB and others sell cars with smaller displacement engines. This is a great move by Infiniti. It should get a younger demographic in the showrooms as well as get MPG figures up for the EPA.

Besides, there are always going to be people that want the looks & prestige of a model, but either don't have the money to buy it or feel the cost does not justify the purchase.

One thing is for sure, Used Car lots are not going to be happy because the G-series is a very good car for them.

point taken but if i paid full pop for the bigger motor I would worry about the want to be's watering down the brand and it's prestige, would you not?

By introducing G25 to US market, Infiniti can upscale the whole G series in next generation. How about a G25 FI? That should easily come w/ 350hp.

automatic.... sigh

although you aren't catering to the 5-10% who'd pick up this transmission....all the companies who throw away the manual are just handing 5-10% of their sales over to BMW.

This is a good move for Infiniti and this will do extremely well against the 328.

Disagree. I think it WOULD, but by pricing it only $2k less than the G37 I think Infiniti screwed up. How many "extra" buyers is Infiniti really going to get with this car when it's only a couple grand less than the one they've been selling for years? I could see $4k, but $2k is just not enough of a difference.

I definitely agree, this should have been released in the first model year, but it's never too late to offer great value. I think Infiniti sales will skyrocket with the introduction of this vehicle, and rightfully so.

Just like the 3-series, C-class, and IS, Infiniti can now give consumers the option of lower displacement while retaining a certain level of luxury.

Go infiniti!

Why are so many people bashing Infiniti's move on this? Last time I checked, the IS350 does not offer a manual trans, but the IS250. In my opinion, the "sport" model is usually the larger displacement, higher powered engine, not the secretary/mommy version.

the A4 is only offered with the 2.0T making 210hp, and when optioned to match a G37 it still costs more.

Everyone keeps forgetting about the stupid CAFE standards and the fact that gas is slightly creeping back up to $4/gallon. Not to mention not everyone needs 300+ HP for dropping kids off to school and going to Costco.

I think the idea is good, the problem Infiniti will have is it's barely cheaper than the G37, and $2k isn't a lot for 112hp. Add an option or two to the G25 and the car costs more than the G37. They either need to make the G25 less expensive, or (more realistically) raise the price of the G37. It's always been sold as the "value priced" car in the class, maybe the addition of a cheaper version will allow them to move it up closer to what BMW, Benz, Audi, and Lexus sell their top end base models for. If they don't make the G37 more expensive I don't know why anyone would get the G25 when the G37 costs basically the same.

I think Infiniti should have used the 2.5L 4 cylinder. The 2.5 V6 won't weigh much less than the 3.7 but the 4 cylinder could have made as much or more power with DI and been lighter.

@ 91z4me

By opting to go with the V-6, they're keeping their product consistent with the segment. None of the other premium car marques(except Saab, Volvo and Acura) offer four cylinders in their models in the U.S.

Going with the V-6 also allows them to inflate the price a little and possibly move this engine into other vehicles.

By the way, they could be using the 2.5L V-6 in this model because the FM chassis will probably be the basis of an upcoming 240Z/Silvia. I hope anyway. I have a feeling this engine will be the basis for the Toyota/Subaru FT-86 competitor. It makes for great marketing and probably for a faster reviving engine.

The Audi A4 comes with the 2.0T TSI 4 cylinder standard. In Europe the BMW 3/MB C has as many 4 cylinder options as 6 cylinder. Also the IS250 is available alongside the IS350. Caddy will be using a 4 cylinder base (likely turbocharged) on its upcoming RWD ATS compact sedan.

So really only MB and BMW in the US don't offer 4 cylinder options. All other competitors offer 4 cylinder variants.

Unfortunately, most people(excluding those who read this blog and a few others) would rather buy a car that is pretty loaded with options and has the smaller engine than go with the same model with the larger engine and not loaded. Why do you think there are so many MB's, Audi's and BMW's without model tags? If you doubt me, next time you're driving around, count how many V-6 Mustangs and Camaros you see as opposed to the V-8 models.

On top of that, by making the automatic the only transmission available, you get to pad the cost of the cost by a few hundred dollars of built in profit and lower the unit cost of the seven speed transmission. It's pure economics.

As for the cost differential between a G25 and G37, try to find a lightly optioned G37 at your local dealer. In effect, Infiniti is raising the cost of the G37 and increasing profit per car.

When is the G scheduled for a redesign? This should have come out a few years ago. Also, the price difference should be a little bigger. Its not that hard to get people to step up with another 2k. This might hurt G37 sales. With only 218hp won't it be kind of a heavy dog like the IS250 awd?
