What 4 Cylinder Motors Out There Have Your Respect?
AS automotive earth saviors go, electric cars and hybrids are widely presumed to be the chosen ones.

But as carmakers and consumers seek real, affordable gains in miles per gallon, it will be the once-humble 4-cylinder combustion engine that takes them there — far more than electrics or hybrids, which are years away from selling in numbers that would rein in the nation’s greenhouse emissions and appetite for oil.

Honda Civic Si. 197-hp, 2.0-Liter K20Z3 Engine 21 City/29 Highway mpg. I have always been impressed with the Honda 4 cylinders. In my opinion the best. Be easy on me guys. Lol.

The most fuel efficient non hybrid. The 1989 Honda CRX HF gets 41 mpg city and 50 mpg highway. The 2009 Toyota Prius, on the other hand, gets 48 mpg city and 45 mpg highway. Why does it take a hybrid to just come close to matching the fuel economy of a 20 year old car. Damn the safety. Heres the link to the article.http://www.ridelust.com/mpg-wars-1989-honda-crx-hf-vs-2009-toyota-prius/

Nissan makes the best 4 cylinder engine. The altima has the highest fuel economy as well I think.

That motor is trash. The Altima is one of the most boring cars I have recently driven.I had one as a rental in march and took it back after a few days for a Maxima. I did like the space, both interior and trunk for its class. The ride was smooth, but to the point it seemed dead. The CVT is absolutely boring and annoying. As the revs stay up due to the CVT,the motor yells and screams to no avail. The motor does not sound good and is wayyy underpowered in the base model trim. Plus its a chick car. No offense if you drive one as this is just my opinion.

in that case, the Suzuki Hyuabusa and Kawasaki ZX14 would be better options.

uhm no...
CBR1000RR 178bhp 439lbs wet, or 2.466lbs per hp
Suzuki Hayabusa 197bhp 587lbs wet or 2.980lbs per hp
Kawasaki ZX14 190bhp 555lbs wet or 2.921lbs per hp

Motorbikes are all about the power to weight ratio. The Suzuki and Hayabusa may be a larger displacement/power, but that doesn't make up for the increase in overall weight.

True so in some instances around corners, the 1000 might beat my bike. However, my bike is the fastest street legal vehicle in the world with a 0-60 time at 2.5 seconds and a 0-150 time at 9 seconds!!! Can that Honda do that????

true enough, different strokes for different folks. Just imagine how insane a cbr1300rr would be.

It would be just as heavy as the Kawi and Suzuki. And I doubt the Hyuabusa will lose its crown.

Mazda take the crown on this one with the Mazdaspeed3, 2.3 Disi turbo that produces 263 HP and 280 Torque while still delivering 25 mpg highway. Pretty impressive you can have a car that with keep up with cars double the price and still get good gas mileage for a performance 4 cyl.

VW/Audi's 2.0T or MINI/BMW's 1.6l Turbo, the only engines that should even get a mention on this thread

VW/Audis 2.0T is so lazy and not rev happy.I would put this motor down on the bottom of the list.

It doesn't have to rev if it makes plenty of torque down low. Not everyone wants to buzz around town at 8k feeling like Speed Racer to pick up milk from the grocery.

I killed 3 Hondas with that little 1.6 liter (i think) 4 cylinder and it was a great little engine. Always gae good strong feeling power and great gas mileage. I drove all those cars until about 180,000 miles with no engine problems.

Dodge Caliber SRT4 turbo charged 4-banger...285 horses. I don't care about the fuel mileage.

A good 4 banger is only as good as the car that it is in. Toyota 1.8 with 180 hp powering the lotus Elise is my choice.

If you are talking about "naturally Asperated" and you are talking about strictly power in a passenger car then you have to give this to Honda as they make the 197 from their 2.0 and the S2000 made 240 from 2.2 4 cylinder.
