Rumor: Next-generation Toyota Prius to be revealed next year
According to Japan’s Best Car magazine, it appears that Toyota is currently working hard on the next-generation Prius and is preparing to reveal it to the world next year.

Unfortunately, there are no details leaked regarding the new models, but we expect it to be more fuel efficient than the current generation and capable to deliver a better range when powered by its electric motors.

Wow... if it's gonna be a whole new generation rather than a facelift type, then I'm impressed with Toyota's pace.

Nice. I always liked the Prius better than the rest of the hybrids. They seem more refined. I wonder if they are going have a sport version and try to appeal to the tuner market. It would be neat to see an influx of hybrids at autocross and on the track.

Hope it's the latest/greatest Li technology plus direct injection and a little turbo - asking too much? NO WAY!

If it goes lithium and drops the 0-60 to under 8 seconds I will take it serious. Otherwise it is a decent platform ruined by terrible steering feel and way underspec'd electric drive.

@t-bone
Or they could just build another car to cater people like us?
aha I think they plan to... sort of. Unfortunately, currently, their only efforts require us to pay a premium for a performance-oriented Lexus hybrid, such as the new CT 200h.

no way toyota will move at such a brisk pace. The current prius was introduced late 2008 as a 2009MY. I think it would be a faulty move to put in the R&D to replace it so soon. Facelift, maybe.

I too think its too soon for a full refresh . But, they are due for a lithium battery update and some nice new tweaks based of the feedback from the plug in in version they have been testing ,
Expect a 3.5 gen update that will be
1) updated battery (better range, speed on battery etc)
2) tweaked exterior (minor)
3) Updated Solar
4) plug in version
5) Improved braking feel and capabilities
6) new electronic geegaws
