All the money you save on fuel will be offset with the huge depreciation hit.

The smaller amounts of emission that they release are already offset with all the emission created by the energy to build one.

Battery recycling and their impact on the environment are still unknown.

One sold recently for $10.5 with 50k mi.
So, the car basically lost more than half of its value in 5 years.

The point I was trying to make is that you can't look at retail value. Retail value is what a dealer would ask for since he needs to stand behind the vehicle with some kind of warranty.

In the real world 01 Prius is fetching $7k-10.5k
which is 30-50% of original value in only 5 years.

20-30 year MBs are not at the junkyard like Toyotas.

I sold my 88 300CE a year ago. It was in pristine condition with more that 300k miles.

I still strongly believe in the diesel. I think diesels will be a huge hit. I'm planning to purchase one as soon as the Bluetec arrives to California. My friend is planning to trade a GX470 for a GL Bluetec. He test drove a GL this weekend and can't stop talking about it.

I didn't dodge your question. I simply don't know enough about the new hybrids to answer your question. We know the Toyota cars are throw always. Like I said before if this is just a marketing move to take advantage of the US consumers, it will never find its way into a MB. Unlike Toyota that is just slapping this technology into every car.

FYI, diesels don't need to visit the gas station every week. NY to Detroit on a single tank and it still does 0-60 in 6.6 sec.

Are you sure you live in CA? I'm in North Cal and we have diesel in 70-90% of our gas stations.

From what I have seen on ebay unless the mileage is less than 50k they will only fetch between $7-$9.5k

Too bad MB didn't offer a diesel in 2001, so you could see how wrong you really are.
