2010 Audi A5 vs. 2010 Lexus IS 350C Which Is the Most Satisfying Luxury Coupe?

2010 Audi A5 vs. 2010 Lexus IS 350C Which Is the Most Satisfying Luxury Coupe?
There are many ways to achieve sports-coupe happiness these days, but which is best for the enthusiast? We wondered what would happen if we pitted Audi’s lighter, turbocharged 4-cylinder A5 2.0T Quattro up against the heavier, yet more powerful Lexus IS 350C (the “C” designating the fact the Lexus sports a retractable hardtop).

Audi offers the opportunity to shift for yourself (with a slick 6-speed), which of course we chose, whereas the Lexus is only available with a 6-speed automatic (albeit a silky-smooth one).

I'd go with the A5 here, because i don't like the IS with its hard top on...

Haven't driven either so based on looks only, I'd go with the A5

Since when are a fixed roof coupe and a folding hardtop convertible considered competitors in the coupe segment? If you're comparing coupes, then put the A5 up against the 3-Series coupe, Cadillac CTS Coupe, and Infiniti G Coupe. If you want to compare convertibles then pit the A5 convertible against the 3-Series convertible, Lexus IS convertible, and Infiniti G convertible. No one is cross shopping an Audi A5 coupe with a Lexus IS convertible.

i think it's because lexus decided to only make a hardtop convertible and no coupe. they figured they could kill two segments with one car. not so much.

my point is that someone wanting a sports coupe isn't going to get the IS convertible (or 3-Series convertible, or G convertible, or A5 convertible), and someone wanting a convertible isn't getting an A5 coupe (or 3-Series coupe, or G coupe, or A5 coupe). It's a nonsensical comparison. Either you want to be able to put the top down or you don't, and people shopping will compare convertibles to convertibles and coupes to coupes.

i'd go with the A5 without a doubt...it's a gorgeous piece of automotive design (the lexus is awkward), offers superior handling, is fun to drive and it's less expensive.

your right it is less expensive the "S4 convertible" which would be the car you would need to get to compete with the IS350C is what $10,000 more if not more than that over a comparably equipped IS350C. Not to mention you would be buying a 2.0t for the price of the 306hp IS350C with similar real world gas mileage. Clearly comparing the A5 "coupe" to a hardtop lexus convertible makes sense but given the poster and the brand Im not surprised.............

Yeah your clearly bias towards Audi....., The A5 is FAR from being a sports car you must be the new Germannut uh hem 009 in disguise. The A5 doesnt have the reflexes to be called a sports car, the 2.0t engine lacks refinement(cant say the same about IS350, yeah check the reviews of the 2.0t) and at the end of the day someone looking for a sports car is looking at the wrong category and if they are looking for the sportiest in this class than neither would be considered..

I'll take the Lexus with a better ride and rocket ship acceleration. It beat the Audi to 100mph by 2.5 sec. SEE YA!!!

Have you seen that Lexus? It's so ugly, it better get out of the way quickly! Look at the build quality (gaps) and the windows that don't close all the way. I've driven the S5 convertible and it's just an elegant car that also packs a punch.

A 2.0T with 211 horses and a Lexus with 306 horses. And 2.5 seconds was it. This makes the Lexus look slow. But then again who cares I wouldn't been seen in a Toyota anyway especially with the top down.

But you'd have no prob being seen in vw powered by what sounds like a lawn mower engine? LOL. Sad.

Neither of these cars a designed for the enthusiast....but I would go with the Lexus for the wife.

I guess that would be a matter of opinion. The A5 is for sports car enthusiast's looking at that price point.

You hate your wife. Put her in the A5, it's safer.

Ok. Here is what your extra $4,000 more A5 gets you over the Lexus.
1) 15 feet more stopping power. If it means that 15 feet determines you live or die. Who cares about the money, you can't take it with you.
A whopping 32 feet from 100mph. Don't drive the Lexus at speeds over 60. You might as well sky dive without a chute.
2).13g's better acceleration. It feels a lot more fun to drive.
3) 4.4 MPH faster through the slalom. Talk about accident avoidance at high speeds. I guess the Lexus accident avoidance system, once again, is for speeds under 60.
4) The A5 is .7 seconds slower 0-60MPH(this is a 4 cyclinder right???), 2.5 seconds slower (it's a 4 cylinder with no mid range torque), but only .8 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile @ 95.2MPH (are you sure this is a 4 cylinder???).
5) 4MPG better in the city, and 5MPG better on the highway than the Lexus. It is a 4 cylinder!!! Damn Germans!!!
All this for $4,000 dollars. WOW!!! Vorsprung durch Technik

All that means nothing one you dont have a source, 2 more than one mag have found the REAL WORLD gas mileage doesnt match the epa ratings for that rating and in fact found the 328i performed better was faster and got better real world gas mileage than the raspy 2.0t that also serves due in a $20,000 car. The A5 is more than .7 seconds slower than the IS350 not to mention if your comparing apples to apples the IS350 sedan easily simply runs away from the A4 2.0t without a problem, while the S4 borders on ISF pricing go figure......oh and in regards to your $4,000 price gap your missing something logical of course you are overly bias.....The IS350C performs with the S5 convertible...so in order to get an Audi A5 that performs par with get this a Lexus IS350C and comparably equipped your looking paying 14 - 18,000 more for the fully loaded $53,000 IS350c compared to a what $70,000 2 door A4 convertible right.....check your math 009

What would you guys rate Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Lexus on (out of 10) for;

- Style
- Sophistication
- Sporty
- Technological/Progressive

Thinking about the whole brand and not particular segments. And thinking about what the attribute means to you.
