Updated & Refreshed 2011 Jeep Wrangler Gets MORE Upscale?

Updated & Refreshed 2011 Jeep Wrangler Gets MORE Upscale?
Once known for its rugged looks and Spartan interior, the Jeep Wrangler was the proletariat dream.

Now, however, it has slowly been receiving upgrades bringing it into the 21st century. And it seems they have paid off. The 2010 Jeep Wrangler 4-dr I recently drove was actually pretty modern with its touch-screen navigation unit.

Granted, it had the shifter of a schoolbus -- indeed, it was a standard gearbox.

Consumer Reports actually says it looks relatively upscale. I agree. That's with good reason because when you price out the cost of a Wrangler today, they are not that cheap anymore.

What do you think of 2011 Wrangler, Spies? Diggin' its updated look with its nicer interior?

The new Chrysler is slowly breaking out of its shell. It has been many months since the automaker went through bankruptcy proceedings, gained government assistance, and an Italian partner. (For a recap, visi our auto crisis hub.) Since then, the company has been shy about future products. It's a shame, as Chrysler needs some positive buzz about the new models in the pipeline. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is now on sale, and making a strong first impression. There have been teaser shots of the new Dodge Durango, and now, the updated 2011 Jeep Wrangler makes an appearance. (See more photos in our New Car Preview.)

The Wrangler upgrades for 2011 are entirely cosmetic, as no mechanical changes have been announced...

The Italians are doing a much better job with Chrysler than either Cerberus or Daimler.
I hope they put the Pentastar V6 in it too!

I agree. The Italians are picking up the pieces from the pillaging of Diamler and the partial dismanteling from Cerberus. Chrysler should have never gotten involved with Diamler. And the pen V6 will be used.

It's really difficult to figure out what exactly is going on with Chrysler. For a brief time when Daimler-Benz owned Chrysler, product reliability and fit and finish improved quite dramatically. But then things kind of petered out and got worse when Cerberus took over.

Fiat is making a good first impression, but only time will tell if they are going to be in it for the long haul. I don't know. I don't see positive results across the Chrysler lineup yet, but I'm hoping Fiat will get it together for Chrysler.

I like the new wrangler. The 4 doors are sweet. It is kind of odd when you look at one with sweet interior and it has a generic looking shifter, maybe Fiat can help with that. I wish Toyota would bring back the FJ40 Land cruiser. The competition would bring improvement..

I hope that Jeep doesn't take any advice from CR, they are idiots!

I hope that they don't follow all of the other auto companies and make a car out of there suv, the fact that the Jeep is capable off road is one of the biggest attributes of Jeep, I don't buy a Jeep for a nice interior or plush ride! If that is what a fools wants hopefully they will buy a car!

The current Toyota FJ Cruiser is more plush and does just as good if not better off road.

Not even close! The FJ is nowhere near the offroad capability of the wrangler. I have gone real off roading in wranglers for many years at badlands off road park in attica, IN and the FJ's cannot do half of the courses that the wrangler can.

Head over to Motortrend to see a better pic of the new interior of the 2011 Wrangler. They have one of the model with the leather interior (Sahara I assume). If I wasnt trying to save up for my CTS Coupe, I would definitely consider a 2011 Wrangler. Especially if the Pentastar V6 is offered.

— Larrybel2000- The Jeep has the Rubicon option with a 4-1 transfer case and two mechanical locking diffs and more suspension flex with two solid axles, in serious off road circles your statement is laughable, not to rub it in your face or anything, the FJ is a nice suv, it actually has a better motor and auto tranny, although I would take Jeeps optional standard tranny. The FJ does have one selectable locker and that is impressive, but the Jeep has two. This is not a brand loyalty issue, I have owned 3 toyotas and wheeled them all, the Jeep is just better off road hands down, If I never went off road seriously I would consider the Toy because of the better motor.

I'm am almost sure that the Pentastar V6 is going to replace all models that carried a V6.The Jeep now looks good both inside and out.All Fiat has to do is refine it's handling a bit and improve it's tranny and they have a real winner on their hands.
