BMW's M3 GTS Posts Its Nurburgring Lap Time, Is It Worth The Extra $$?
While many here may claim that AutoSpies really is BMWSpies, that's not the case. We just stand behind whatever we think is the best product at the time. As any publication would do the same if they're worth the paper its written on.

But it's time to get a bit critical.

Let's be real here, the E92 M3 GTS is an outrageously expensive BMW. Significantly more than the E46 M3 CSL and although it has a lot of kit, it still remains pricey. You would really have to be a diehard to get one of these.

And the recently relased Nurburgring track time for the M3 is 7:48, which is quite respectable. Although, the E46 M3 CSL nailed it in 7:50.

With that in mind, which would be your choice? E46 or E92?

Do the two seconds even matter?

**Take a look down below to see what other cars run similar times to the M3 GTS, quite impressive company...

The highly awaited Nurburgring track time of the BMW M
3 GTS is just in: 7:48. German magazine Sport Auto publishes an extensive test drive of the M3 GTS in their latest print edition...

Let’s also have a look at other cars’ lap times.

Other comparison times:
7:46 – Porsche 911 GT2
7:46 – Lamborgini Gallardo Superleggera
7:46 – Jaguar XJ220
7:47 – Porsche 911 GT3 RS
7:47 – Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
7:49 – Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06

A track version M3 in 7:48 is just LAME. Shouldn't that be for a standard E92 M3? What's happening to BMW? They're very smart about sport sedan and now cannot figure out how to make a proper sports car?

BTW E46's 6 sounds a lot better.

Let's look @ some others.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%BCrburgring_lap_times

7:33 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 997MkII Sport Auto(04/2010)PCCB
7:34 Koenigsegg CCR Sport Auto(03/2006)
7:38 Nissan GT-R Sport Auto(07/2009)
7:38 Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 October 2009 Sport Auto
7:38 Lexus LFA Sport Auto(09/10)
7:38 Ferrari 458 Italia Sport Auto(08/2010)

The closest comparison, somehow 00R missed, is

7:40 Porsche 911 GT3 997MkII Sport Auto (06/2009)

Well, only 2 seconds slower than those supercars above, compared to 10 seconds of M3 GTS.

I think the M3 GTS compares to the 911GT3 RS which is only 1 second faster and thats over a 14 mile long track, most the cars on this list cost more then the GTS other than the chevy and the nissan.

@Inline6,

you'red kidding me right? Get a grip dude, the Porsche lost and it lost fair and square. Don't think Porsche best and most experience to drive the car to beat the Nissant GT-R?

Aha...ha...ha...ha... Cann't wait to see what the GT-R Spec-V can do on the Nurburgring track.

Inline6: I believe Porsche won't keep Walter if he can't performs. GT-R's 7:26 driver is Toshio Suzuki, 55 yrs old now.

Horst von Saurma is not a sorry driver. His fastest lap is 7:24 in a Gumpert Apollo.

@Lexus..

Until cars start driving themselves...(which I'm sure the GT-R probably can)...a certain mesaure of the Lap Time must be attributed to driver skill, and other factors. How much should it count?...well I'll leave that to debate by the AutoSpies Fanboys Elite.

Correction,

don't you think Porsche will use their best and most experience driver to beat the Nissan GT-R?

These aren't official lap times. I'm sure the car will get a better time then.

It's misleading thinking record set in any circuit has much to do w/ reflex. Just play the GT5 and you'll know :) The examples of Walter and Toshio, both over 50, proved that already.

@Inline6,

I will answer that from an unbias point of view, yes I think that it could've been much faster if he was 10 to 15 years younger. But my question why didn't Porsche use another driver who is younger and has the experience get the Porsche best time lap?

Porsche decided to use him and they lost and that is all it matter for now. Porsche still make some of the best sportscar out there, I still have a lot of respect for them. I have more respect for them than most BMW drivers out there on the street. Because they're know their car are fast and usually Never try to smoke you at the red light like BMW drivers.

BMW drivers crack me up even the one that drive the lowly 325i and 328i with their under power engine. Good thing Not all BMW drivers are like that, most of them all thought.

This Bimmer is fast, but in comparison to the Vett 06 it is 10-12 seconds slower, If BMW wants to be top gun they better make something to beat the Vett, especially because of the perception that euro cars are so superior over American,lol

LexusLexus - 8/22/2010 5:29:24 PM

And as far performance sedan goes the German has nothing that can beat the Cadillac CT-V sedan yet on the Nurburgring yet. So much for German superiority in the Automotive world.

If the American auto company want to make car that can beat the European, Japan and Hyundai, I know they can. They just have to invest more money, hire the right designers, engineer and use better materials.

As I said your question is misleading so what's the point of answering it? I thought you should know better that it's not reflex that determines when to brake, where to clip, and when to go on pedal.

Ah, and virtual reality, don't you know they use that to train air pilots and F1 drivers? GT5 is handy, which is why I refer to it. No matter how unreal you think it might be, it certainly teach you not to overly rely on 'refelx'.

Since its less than the price of two 911's, I am going to say yes, this car is probably worth it.
