Is The Bentley Continental Flying Spur Worth DOUBLE The Price Of A Jaguar XJL?

Is The Bentley Continental Flying Spur Worth DOUBLE The Price Of A Jaguar XJL?
Once and a while you have to sit down, look in the mirror and say "Is it really worth it?" No, no. Not the Ike Behar tie you are currently wearing. We all know those are worth it.

We're talking about cars of course, silly.

For example, let's take a look at a modern auto question that has been lingering for a little bit: is the Bentley Continental Flying Spur really worth DOUBLE the price of a Jaguar XJL? To be more precise, the XJ rings the register anywhere from approximately $72,000 to $114,000 where the Bentley costs upwards of 180 heads of lettuce, give or take.

While the new Jaguar's exterior appears to 00R as a larger XF with a French-inspired, tacked-on rear end, its interior is where this car shines. It is a tasteful blend of new and old world with a hint of modern amenities.

Meanwhile the Flying Spur appears genuinely old school and it should only be piloted by anyone with a tweed blazer.

Neither cars can be considered lust worthy from their outside appearance but like some may say about their significant other, "it's on the inside that counts." This is shorthand for "yeah, they're ugly."

Ultimately, we want to know taking all things into consideration, is the Bentley worth it?

PS -- I'd love to have a comparable PR video from Bentley but it appears that the company is still stuck in 1928 or something and does not know what the internet is. As you can see its YouTube only has two videos on it.

Two different cars. I'd say no its not worth double the Jag but thats just the opinion of an average guy. If I wasnt the average guy and I could afford a Bentley, if thats what I wanted thats what I would buy.

First off what is a XJL? Was that some short of ironic sarcasm name given to the XJ? Anyway, this is truly a flame war topic. As I said before and I will say it again that the XJ is great car and beautiful inside and out. I mean it just have so much presence about itself.

"First off what is a XJL? Was that some short of ironic sarcasm name given to the XJ? "

Uh, no. That's the name Jaguar gave it, it's the "L"ong wheelbase version of the XJ.

First out let me apologize for showing my ignorance. I just knew that only the previous XJ carried the long wheel base model and this model doesn't. Due to the fact the standard is close in size with the BMW 7 long wheel base.

And the Bentley is nice, but I as said previously before that is the problem/ or great thing with the Jag in which it presents a middle ground between Merc/Bimmer and Bentley/Rolls Royce.

please understand when I say this that I really, really like the XJ. I think it's a great looking car inside and out and according to reviews it's apparently dynamically as good or better than anything in the class. Kudos to Jag. But "middle ground" between a Benz/BMW/Audi/etc. and a Bentley/Rolls? No. If the Jag costs the same or less than the BMW/Benz/Audi/etc. then it's not a "middle ground" between them and cars costing two or three times as much. It's "the same ground". The "middle ground" would be cars that cost... in the middle.

this is what I mean Bimmer/Merc--Jag--Bentley/Roll Royce
you see the Jag is in the "middle." I guess I should say in my opinion, which I have stated before that the Jag is more of a "bridging" vehicle between the classes. Also I'm not basing things off the price category, but rather pure execution of materials and presentation of the vehicle, i.e, "the aesthetic qualities."

And yes, price wise its not the middle ground. I do agree with you, JRobUSC, on that particular issue, but again I'm not talking about price.

No the Bentley does NOT worth double what the XJ worth, you're just paying for the name plate or logo. They're both good looking car with great heritage and following.

I be happy with either car. Who care what everyone think you drive or own, as long as you're happpy and having fun what you drive is all it matter to me.

Yes. Is that what is cost? This argument can be made about almost any are.

The Flying Spur is not worth twice the price. However the Mulsanne is worth 3 times as much(perhaps). The Jaguar is a fabulous car.I'm not sure I would opt for the Bentley when their is the supercharged 507 HP XJR. The Jaguar is lighter on it's feet and handles better even in base form then BMW's 7 series, the S class or the A8. The Jag is compared to a Maserati Quattroporte and the Porsche Panamera but rides better and has more room then either.

Since these two cars are probably not being cross shopped, since the demographics are very different. If you go to Crewe and see the amount of hand-work by craftsman that goes in to a Bentley, even one based on a VW Phaeton is worth the money. Let's see an $113,000 XJL Supersport and the way it is built which is done in a very modern way or a car that has various custom ways as desired by the client (bespoke) is probably worth the extra money. The Bentley heritage and craftsmanship is worth it.

I have sold Jaguars and this new XJ is car that is 6 years late. They needed a progressive car a long time ago and a break with past, which this does. Jaguars demographic is high, while most of the Bentley owners that I know are under 45 years old which was the Bentley target market while developing the current Continental line. Jaguar traditionally tends to have an anemic conquest rate, I doubt conquest sales from Bentley.

And you can more or less of something but you cannot buy more for less!

This is stupid now.

They are not in the same league. No knocks against the jaguar but the car could be faster and handle better but doesn't mean it is better in the eyes of the uber-rich. A casio or seiko is probably more accurate than a rolex but, again, they are in different leagues.
