Toyota Readying For Yet Another Recall? NHTSA Ramps Up Scrutiny On 1.2 Million Stalling Models

Toyota Readying For Yet Another Recall? NHTSA Ramps Up Scrutiny On 1.2 Million Stalling Models
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is upgrading its investigation into possible stalling problems in nearly 1.2 million Toyota Corolla and Matrix cars.

The issue, as described by NHTSA, is that the "engine can stall at any speed without warning and not restart."

The agency had opened a "preliminary investigation" into the problem at the end of November. At the time, the investigation involved only model year 2006 Corolla and Matrix vehicles. (The Matrix is essentially a wagon version of the Corolla.) That matter has now been upgraded to an "engineering analysis," a more detailed and thorough type of investigation.

And when will the current administration stop targeting Toyota? Frankly it is get pretty obvious.

The current administration did nor 1. build nor design the cars 2.Take years to react when the problems came to light and 3. lie and try to cover up the problems.

PS the twist tie fix is hilarious

Based on the Toyota dealer telling me that my 2007 Camry V6 was the first recorded V6 engine stall issue(back in 2007 in Indiana per Toyota California), something tells me that my vehicle is in the top 2. It had to do with an exhaust valve lifter on one of the cylinders. Ended up costing about $1,500 to fix under warranty. It did more than stall the engine. Not only did the car stall while driving but, it activated the VSC, bringing the car to a near halt on a highway at 65+mph. This happened a few times.

For what it's worth, the car acts normally now, with no issues and great gas mileage. But, I can't wait to get rid of it to go back to American muscle.

I wonder which member of the media or rogue NHTSA employee tampered with your car. This is getting crazy; the government is actually tampering with cars to fabricate problems so that they can whip up a media firestorm and cause millions upon millions of toyotas and lexuses to be recalled for multiple defects that appear over many years on every continent of the Earth.

Making toyotas and lexuses look like shitty pieces of junk has clearly been the most effective government program in the history of government programs.

Bravo Obama!

Generally, Japanese product quality is superior to American product quality. Seems that Americans are envious of this fact, and have taken this opportune time to indulge in 'Japan Bashing'.

FAIL for showing a picture of a newer generation Corolla from Europe. Is it that hard to get a picture of an 05-08 Corolla/Matrix. They are ALL the same car. I have a 2005 XR AWD Matrix and never had an issue with stalling. 116,000 miles strong. Engines in the 2003-2008 models were all identical only fascia changes and radios updated in the 05 and up models. Nothing more. I wonder why they are not worrying about the Vibe either.
