GM Revives High Performance Operations
It appears that GM has a new plan for us: with a marketing veteran in charge it will develop powerful small cars. Yes, Jim Campbell the new vice president of GM’s performance vehicles and motorsports and will help the manufacturer develop new vehicles.

For those who don’t know, GM put the development of high-performance small cars on hold. After it reported an impressive $1.3 billion net profit for the second quarter, it appears that GM is ready for new tasks and is considering expanding its performance line to its small cars, such as the Chevrolet Cruze as well as the next-generation Chevrolet Aveo (previewed by the Aveo RS Concept).

Awesome! I'm sort of waiting for Chevy and GM overall to bring back large sedans and coupes again! Those that aspire mainly towards form and absolute beauty, emotion, and details!

Good. They almost had a competitive 4cyl compact with the Cobalt. It was short lived though. The Solstice was a nice ride perhaps they can update and re-badge. They need a car to place against the 370Z, G37, and even the RX8 which is on its way out but they can use some chassis lessons from. Good job with Camaro, just give us one with mad H/P for the weekend drags. You really only have to top Challenger and Mustang. Corvette is awesome. Looking forward to the upgrades.

This is great. The very underrated Cobalt SS was the only saving grace for that model. I'd love to see what they could do with the Cruze.

Was at the National Pontiac G8 meet this past weekend. Having 60+ G8s in one place seemed to bring much interest to the model. Any place I stopped in Bettendorf & surrounding community, the car was recognized due to the quantity of 'em in town for the weekend. They need to bring the replacement of this car to the states ASAP!

I knew this would happen eventually. It's a natural progression.

@Larrybel2000: That car that you speak of (competitor to 370Z/G37/RX8) would be the CTS coupe, wouldn't it? All go for similar money (circa $38k) and are all rear drive with about 300hp. I guarantee that the CTS will run rings around any of the above, making it a formidable opponent.

@Enforcement: And here we have it...the ignorance has finally surfaced. Everybody "farms out" technology, young Jedi. It's part of a global world strategy, or are you one of those who have never left Backwater, USA and think that the world is flat? These principles are established macroeconomics principles. If the Germans know more about suspension settings (which they do) let them design the floor plan. If the Brits know more about wood and leather (which they do), let them appoint the interior. If the Japanese know more about quality control (which they do) let them develop the manufacturing processes. And if the Italians know more about making a car sexy (which they do), let them design the body. THAT'S how you build a car to kick ass. Moron.
