Watch This And Tell Us What Needs To Be Done To Ensure Teen Drivers Actually Know How To Drive
A single car crash on Interstate 675 shut down the southbound lanes in Sugarcreek Twp. for six hours Aug. 23.

Brennan S. Eden, 19, of Mason, Ohio, lost control of his car and slammed into the concrete pillar of a bridge south of Indian Ripple Road about 7:15 a.m.

The force of the crash broke the car into three pieces and Brennan was ejected.

Witnesses said moments before the crash, Brennan was passing other drivers at speeds of at least 100 mph. He crashed when he drove off the left side of the roadway while passing a Sugarcreek Twp. police car. The crash was caught on that officer's cruiser camera.

The best way to train drivers is an organized track day, such as offered by the BMW CCA. That and the street survival school also offered by CCA, which is a parking-lot school teaching low-speed maneuvers. There are many such programs around. Getting your ya-yas out on the track will make you aware of how easy it is to lose control, and how to recover control once lost. No other driver training in the USA offers a chance to lose control of the vehicle and learn what that feels like. The most common driver training programs only give minimum instruction and then give you a license to be stupid.

I agree, There simply is no way to effectively learn how to regain control without losing it yourself. many people go YEARS without learning that portion and still lose it.

I can tell you that when I have children and they are driving age (that will be 17 in my house). They will be enrolled in a driving school. Not just the typical Joe's Driver's Ed course. But I mean like a Skip Barber style where they will learn defensive driving and handling.

We don't need the Government getting involved! There's too much government already. Aint that right 009?

That is what the private sector is for. Government can make the laws and allow the private sector to fill the gaps.

As it sits now our administration would take over the system and make it a federal requirement, and it would cost taxpayers 10 times the amount in administrative cost.

What would we do when/if the private sector is ineffective?

10 times the amount in administrative costs? You sure about that? Kinda like our super awesome private health insurance company health care that has 10 time the administrative costs compared to say, the Japanese gov. run health care? 20% of our health care money goes to administrative costs. In Japan it is 2%.

There's a lot of things to say, but thank goodness America hasn't gotten the the point that if a witness had caught the tragedy on camera, he would be arrested... Hopefully.

I had my 16-yr old son take a teen safe driving school taught at Willow Springs Raceway about 6 months after he got his license. They taught the kids driving and handling. Used the dry and wet skidpad. Taught emergency braking using ABS and how to steer around a object. etc, etc. Used your own car. Cost $400. No excuse for any parent not to do this.

And of course, while he did that, I took advantage of a track day on the Streets of Willow. Win-win for everyone!

The solution to this problem would have been simple. This moron shouldn't have been doing over 100 mph.

I'm wondering how he lost control. Was he texting on his cellphone? Was one of his tires not inflated to the proper specs? Was he eying some hot babe in a car next to him or something?

That is the solution but just how many will listen? That is like saying guns kill people. Teach a person how to properly handle a firearm and half the accidents disappear. It is all about respect.

Yeah Willis. The problem is the fact that he was speeding. Even with the best race/driving school experience he still would have been a Moron. Start with the driving schools and teach your kids at home not to do stupid stuff.

Responsible parents do thier best and prepare thier kids in responsible ways. Its the others and there are so many who put responsible people and thier kids at risk. While I'm for less government a return to mandatory driver training of a quality level is the only way to reach all teenagers and future adults.

Other news reports claim that the driver had just been released from jail only minutes before the crash. They didn't say what he was in jail for, but he probably should have been kept there for a while longer.

"Troopers say they are now investigating to see what role, if any, speed played in the crash"

Is that moron of a reporter blind or just plain stupid? Of course speed played a role in this crash. Cars don't disintegrate by sitting still in a parking lot. That sort of thing happens when the unstoppable speeding Firebird meets the immoveable overpass column. A more meaningful investigation would be into what role, if any, did alcohol or drugs play in this crash. What can be done, you ask? Nothing. Everybody harbours thoughts of them being Mario Andretti or Michael Schumacher when they get behind the wheel of an automobile, be that automobile a Firebird or a Prius. The end result will be the same and Youtube will live on forever.
