Time to unpimp the RSX? Acura kills this popular model to go upscale?

Honda’s Executive Vice President Dick Colliver wrote, “In our quest to provide you and our customers with the very best and most appropriate Acura models, we have decided to eliminate the RSX from the 2007 line-up, thus streamlining our product offering to better fit with Acura’s evolving and more upscale image.”

Speculation says it will be replaced by a TSX coupe.

Honda killed the Prelude to make room for the RSX... In a time when old names are making comebacks.. Maybe we could see the return of the Prelude!! The Prelude was a lot more swanky than any Integra or RSX ever was. If Honda wants to be lazy, they could just rebadge the RSX and call it as the rest of the world still sees it: Honda Integra.

Apparently, some of you don't know how to read sales numbers because most manufacturer's would love to be "going down the toilet" like Acura.

Also, Buster, not sure what manual RSX you drove, but Honda/Acura are very well known for making some of the best manual's out there and my old RSX had none of the symptoms you mentioned.

I do want to commend you on your TSX prediction, however (ha). A car in its last year and a half until a full model change and it probably will start to go down. Not bad for a car that has consistently exceeded sales expectations for 3 years. Can't wait for your boasting when it does go down, though. I suggest a name change...Nostradamus.

I believe there are a few pertinent pieces of information that were not mentioned in the statement. A)Acura does not exist in Japan, only Honda so the Acura NSX is the Honda NSX and the Acura TSX is the Honda Accord Euro Type R.B)The Acura RSX is the Honda DC5 Integra in Japan. The Integra DC5 Type-R sells very well in Japan and in England. I think that Acura Canada and Acura USA will no longer import the
RSX aka DC5 Integra to North America. They will be following the same path that Toyota and Mazda took in the late 1990's with the Supra and RX-7.

Acura, like Infiniti have to make a decision sometime about their vehicles and take direct action if they want to play with the 'Big Boys' (Audi, BMW, Lexus-yes Lexus, and MB... The RL and Q45 are mostly compared with the A6, 5 series, GS sedans and the E class instead of the A8, 7 series, LS sedans and S classes...

I think that Acura should inject a dose of oomph in the TSX first. Heck, it's not even a competitor with the G35 for the most part... and they (G35's) are on BMW's heels. Give the TSX RWD, more engine choices and obviously more power. Drop the RSX and make a TSX coupe to compete with the 3 series and G35 coupes. A name change or series change would even work in my opinion... TS with some numerals for engine litres? ex. 3.2TS... The TS (any proper name would do, but I think you get my point) coupes would emphasise Honda/Acuras best in performance and refined luxury and would serve as the companys competition for the 3, GS, and others (*upcoming Lexus IS coupe?). My point really is that Acura needs to have 1 entry car in the form of sedan and coupe instead of 2 different cars... It would be like BMW calling it's sedan the '3' and it's coupe version the '2' series IMHO.
That's just the beginning... The TL series would need some tweaking to become an A6, 5 series, GS series, and E class competitor (instead of A4, 3, ES, and C).
and the RL... It should be up there with the S classes and 7 series... Lexus has stepped up to the plate with its new LS... The Acura RL is competing for the dollars of GS owners...

( I hope this made sense to you, I am just a car fan that enjoys autospies as a place to blog some of my opinions when I'm bored LOL so don't knock me ;-)
