SHOWDOWN: 2011 Ford Edge Vs. 2011 GMC Terrain, 00R Vs. 001

SHOWDOWN: 2011 Ford Edge Vs. 2011 GMC Terrain, 00R Vs. 001
Admitedly so, when the first Ford Edge was released I was not a huge fan of its styling. It looked way too much like a razor, or something.

But while working the 2010 Chicago Auto Show, Ford happened to unveil its updated Edge  crossover at what is largely considered a "truck show." Although the Edge is not exactly a truck, it is functional to its core demographic of suburbanites who need utility.

When I saw the 2011 Ford Edge I must admit, I didn't hate it. In fact, I was sort of digging it. I turned to Agent001 and said, that looks "pretty damn good."

001 disagreed.

He mentioned that the GMC Terrain has a certain brutality to its design that exudes masculinity and he thinks that car is the better of the two.

And then 001 and I continued to debate it. Hell, we still do. Fighting with the head cheese around here is like fighting with a pig. And to quote the man himself:

"Don't get into a fight with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig likes it!"

So, we both figured that we would present to you, the Spies, and see what the reaction was. And you better believe we'll be keeping a tally of how many users pick which design.

To be clear I said to 00R the Terrain has a better EXTERIOR design. That's it. Because in every other way (interior, drive, tech, quality, etc.) the Edge blows its doors off.

I'm with 00R on this one. As big a GM fan as I openly admit to being, the Terrain is an eyesore. I despise it and there is NOTHING masculine about it. Unless being masculine means being untidy and tacky. The original Edge was also an eyesore and I'm glad we are now rid of it. It has been replaced by a vehicle that is at least acceptable. I'm not feeling the interior and the instrument cluster is way to busy for my liking. Overall, though, Ford has my attention with this one.

I think they did a great job with the new designe of the Edge. I prefer the black grill but inside and out is just good looking.

Although I hate the crossover class in general, I think the Ford Edge shown here is much much better looking than the dreadful X6 and 5GT from BMW. As for the Terrain, it has more of a SUV appearance than a crossover appearance and I think it looks fine.

The Terrain vs. the Edge? GMC is considered a luxury higher end brand so wouldn't you be better comparing it to say a Lincoln Variant (if one existed currently in new form). The Chevy Equinox would be the competitor I guess, but regardless these two are not in the same class. You are comparing a compact SUV to a crossover. Therefore this argument is mute.

Ok the Terrain competes with the Ford Escape not the Edge GM technically doesnt have a car that competes DIRECTLY with the Edge......

the fenders on the terrain are hideous. It is straight ugly. the edge looks much better and so does the equinox. from the exterior the equinox actually looks more upscale while the terrain looks out of proportion and unfinished.
