Didn't We Tell You This Was Going To Happen? Toyota Recalls 1.13 Million Cars For Defective ECMs

Didn't We Tell You This Was Going To Happen? Toyota Recalls 1.13 Million Cars For Defective ECMs
Toyota Motor Corp said on Thursday that it would recall about 1.13 million Corolla and Matrix cars in the United States due to defective electronic control units that could cause the vehicles to stall.

Toyota said it had unconfirmed reports of three accidents and one minor injury in connection with the problems with the units on vehicles from the 2005 through 2008 model years. It will replace the units.

The recall of the Corolla and Matrix cars adds to the 11 million vehicles Toyota has recalled in the past year, denting the automaker's reputation for safety and leaving it under intense scrutiny by U.S. safety regulators.

aha GM did followup with a recall for the Vibe.
I do like how the NHTSA got really hyped up about the 163 out of 1.8 allegedly tainted Corollas/Matrix (Matrices?). Compare that with their reactions towards other automakers.

*I'm not saying that we should forgive Toyota although this is more of a quality rather than a safety issue. Of course, I might be wrong.

Did anyone ever question why only the American-made Toyotas have such a massive recall? Why only the American-made parts were the root of the problem? Why the other Japanese-made Toyotas didn't have any massive recall?

Few years ago, there was some massive recalls on the US branded products. Those products were made in China but designed by American. How come we didn't blame the US brands at that time as we are blaming on Toyota? If we do the same this time, we should blame ourselves.

Please take a careful look at the Toyota vehicles. I am not the fan of Toyota or the other brands. How come the Japanese-made Toyota, such as Yaris or Highlander have a better craftmanship than the domestic-made? I am not going to argue with anyone. These are the questions we need to think about.

No matter where the parts where made or assembled it was done the so called "Toyota way" under Toyota quality control, and engineering and management. You cant blame the hard working Americans for doing what Toyota asked them to do in order to feed their families. So try to put that BS spin some where else......

There were only 3 accidents. How about Chrysler ? 55 people died of jeep's fire, and they still haven't recall them yet.

The issue of this recall is the bad soldering joint. Let me tell you an example in my company. My company had order a batch of Scosche Power Filters from California. The power filters were made in California. Almost of them had loose soldering joint that needed RMA immediately. The company surprisely denied the problem and blamed our company. Come on, this is not rocket science. Loose soldering joint can be idenified visually. There is no way to deny the responsbility. At the end, VP of Scosche apologized and admitted it was their fault.

I am not surprised that this kind of issue can also be found in the Toyota vehicles. Pooe quality controlled part suppliers and poor Toyota QC management would end up the massive recalls today.

Is Deplhi american supplier?
Is CTS american supplier?
Toyota shall forget american automotive suppliers, they does not know about car technology. All Toyota trouble is coming from US industry products.

The rest of the industry that build cars in the US wait for it USE THE SAME EFFIN SUPPLIERS! Where are the BMW, or Honda, Nissan massive recalls? There are none suppliers are like bakers the make what you ask them to make how YOU designed it with materials YOU select and in the end and it's all done before you pick up your cake it's up to YOU to test this cake and see if it is to YOUR liking. So it all comes down to YOU .A real enthusiast knows this and now you do so don't blame the suppliers or workers any more.

For uaw_lax:
Do you think, that BMW is selecting US suppliers for the important functions as engine controls, safety electronics?... Ask BMW engineers.

Toyota has same specification for every supplier.
The Japan suppliers can fulfil the requirements without problem.
The US suppliers (and their products) are not reliable. These are facts.

The parts and supply business is a competition. The reality shows, that US companies are loosing. I hope, Toyota will recongize serious business loss to use local parts.
