Hybrid Royal Rumble: BMW Vs. Lexus Vs. Porsche Vs. VW

Hybrid Royal Rumble: BMW Vs. Lexus Vs. Porsche Vs. VW
What happens when there is a "green" revolution but the American culture refuses to give up its "bigger is better" mentality?

In the words of Steve Jobs, "Boom." You get hybrid sport-utility vehicles.

Although many in the press will alude to them NOT making sense or being absolutely pointless, that's just a narrow-minded perspective essentially saying "I don't get it, so, I hate it."

In actuality auto manufacturers are giving the people what they want.

With that said, let's take a look at the greener things in life, like hybrid SUVs. Since there has been an increase in green awareness it seems they have been popping up with every manufacturer. Now we've got a BMW, Lexus, Porsche and Volkswagen -- oh yeah, Audi says they've got something up their sleeves too for all you LED lovers.

So, if we were in a WWF/E/whatever Royal Rumble, who would you pick and why?

Perhaps the dumbest comparison test of all time.

Diesel makes way more sense for the SUV application.

Not so much in the US where diesel isn't so widely used, especially here in San Diego

The BMW, the best hybrids should be about performance not fuel economy.

I like to think that "boom" is reserved for products built by design, not by committee.

It's criminally insane to spend all the effort on a hybrid drivetrain and drop it into vehicle platform that compromises on both on road AND offroad performance, but yes, it checks all the boxes on the surveys.

It's not insane to spend money improving your worst performers as far as fuel economy goes. It's far more valuable to the environment to develop a hybrid suv then a hybrid compact car that already got good fuel economy.

That would make sense except that you already sell 3x as many of the smaller fuel efficient cars.

How much is the battery performance of Porsche and VW? The germans added the electric motor performance to petrol engine. This calculation is absolutely not correct. The battery max performance can added to petrol engine AND the battery performance can be less than electric motor performance. Something is not so clear.
The paralell hybrids cannot drive in full electric mode. How can the VW brothers do it?
Autobild = German car winners.
