Already? Hyundai Positioning Self To Become Number 2 Asian Automaker In US
Toyota's tarnished image has helped Nissan gain ground among Asian carmakers this year, but a U.S. sales surge by fast-moving South Korean automaker Hyundai may knock the carmaker down a notch just as it starts an ad campaign this weekend to move up.
Buoyed by 10 straight months of sales gains, Nissan was making in-roads to eventually unseat Honda as the No. 2 Asian automaker on these shores, but Hyundai's pitch of lower prices for midsize sedans is capturing momentum, especially when coupled with sales of the Kia brand that Hyundai also owns.

Not a great feat win the number two spot is very small to began with. Anyways I always favored Nissan over Toyota for the number one spot.

Price for many is THE key factor. If it wasn't for price the Japanese would not have ever gotten a foothold in the US. Many forget superior quality came AFTER they got in the door with price.

It's hard to imagine anyone thinking that US cars were of better quality than the Japanese in the 80s and 90s. They were atrocious and everyone knows that. Thanks to the Japanese, American cars are pretty much equal in quality to their Japanese counterparts. Implying that this is not the case just makes people laugh at you.

My question of superior quality is asking what happened to it TODAY! Sure Toyota made better cares 20 years ago anyone would be a fool not to see that but on the other hand with a recall just about every other month you would be a bigger fool not see that the so called superior quality is a thing of the past.

I don't know about conspiracy theories...but I have a younger sister who has owned 3 different generations of Camry's and dosent know much about cars. She and my wife got to talking about what car she was going to pick up to replace her current Camry and honest to god she said she was considering the new Hyundai Sonata over the Camry this time around.
This isn't a fabrication either, this conversation happened in the car 2 days ago. So if an every day non car nut Toyota support dosent trust or want to pay for their brand anymore, it dosent surprise me that the Koreans would start moving up.
