Saab is in talks with three automakers to share technology
Talks are ongoing between Saab Automobile and three vehicle makers about sharing their technology in a move to reduce model-development costs and bolster its recovery, according to Spyker Cars NV Chief Executive Officer Victor Muller, the head of Saab’s parent company.

Muller said that they are seeking an industrial partner to invest technology and cash in an updated version of Saab's classic 92-modelcompact car of the 1950s. However, he declined to name the companies it is in talks with, citing non-disclosure agreements.

Saab has some decent product left over from the GM days (9-5 and upcoming 9-4), but these technology sharing deals prove that they wouldn't be able to develop product on their own.

So MB & BMW working together on Hybrid drivetrains means that they do not have the ability to develop this technology on their own?

Sorry Chewy, but you are wrong. Saab(Koenigsegg) doesn't feel that the expenditure of funds justifies the investment to develop the tech right now.

i can see SAAB/Spyker having discussions with Magna or a couple of the high level suitors that wanted to purchase SAAB from GM. Joint ventures today makes more sense today than ever before. Better to partner with the competition than to be overtaken in the market and forced into bankruptcy.
