NHTSA Opens Investigation On 2011 Hyundai Sonata Over Steering Issues
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary investigation into steering issues reported on the 2011 Hyundai Sonata.

NHTSA said it reviewed field reports on 2011 Hyundai Sonata vehicles that allege either a separation of the intermediate steering shaft assembly upper universal joint that resulted in a complete loss of steering capability or a loosening, but not complete separation, of the upper universal joint connection.

The probe covers about 16,300 2011 Hyundai Sonata vehicles, NHTSA said in a statement posted today on its website. The popular vehicle accounts for nearly half of the company's car sales in the United States.

Uh Oh the clear film on the rear quarter panel of my 2005 Matrix with 116,000 is starting to peel. NHTSA start an investigation and recall my car for a full repaint and bumper fix. Even though this may be a valid reason for NHTSA to go after Hyundai they are getting a little crazy with all of their rules and regs.

I think to be fair 009 should have titled this thread like this, as he did with the VW Jetta recall story:

Your Tax Dollars At Work? NHTSA Open Investigation Of Steering issues in the 2011 Hyundai Sonata After Only TWO Complaints.

I have said that Hyundai cars were junk.

So if Hyundai is 'junk' due to an investigation, what is toyota, with their massive, humiliating, image-crushing RECALL?

If you want a good Japanese car stick with Nissan, and Mazda.

That would almost work except most Mazda's are built with Ford parts and Ford engines.
