Second Oil Rig Fire In 5 Months: So How Long Until Are All Driving Plug In Vehicles?

Second Oil Rig Fire In 5 Months: So How Long Until Are All Driving Plug In Vehicles?
A well connected to an oil and gas production platform caught on fire in the Gulf of Mexico Thursday, engulfing the vessel in flames about 100 miles off the central coast of Louisiana and forcing 13 people overboard, Gov. Bobby Jindal said.

All 13 people have been accounted for, said Petty Officer Bill Colclough of the Coast Guard. They were found floating on a raft, officials said. Mariner Energy, which owns the Vermilion Oil Rig 380, said none of the crew members was hurt in the incident, despite earlier reports of a single injured worker.

Also, Mariner indicated that the fire -- which was first reported to the Coast Guard by workers on a nearby rig around 9:20 a.m. (10:20 a.m. ET) -- was not sparked by an explosion. It started at one of the platform's seven active wells, the company said, though its cause is under investigation.

Look at the current administration and just how fast they swing into action as big brother. If there is any fear it isn't being controlled they will jump in and regulate it. It might not be this time, but don't count it out.

So the Gov't shouldn't get involved with Private Business?

If the Gov't didn't get involved, the minimum wage would be about $1.50 per hour.

All Autospies wants to do is spur discussion so they get as many hits as possible...so they can charge as much as possible for advertising space. Seems to be working ;)

I agree Agent009. One of the regulation problems is that they pushed offshore drilling so far offshore. If that last oil spill was 500 feet deep instead of 5000 it would have been capped earlier. They also regulate onshore drilling to where we can't even get to it..

Ah yes, but where do you draw the line? Especially with technology advancing. Bureaucrats are best to keep to themselves.

There was an oil spill in Mexico that took 9 months to plug. The oil rig was less than 1000 feet from the shore.

And Agent009, how soon you forget about the "Energy Summit" where Dick Cheney let the Oil industry write the regulations. Look at where the lax regulations are getting us. The Current state of the oil industry has nothing to do with the current administration. The Oil industry owned the Government long before Obama.

And the most retarded thing anyone can say is that industries shouldn't be regulated. Left on their own they will destroy the planet, as evidenced by the BP oil spill fiasco.

What next? No Egg inspectors? No meat inspectors? No one inspecting restaurants? Let’s get rid of all the regulations, we don't need them right? What the hell is wrong with some of you people? I think you guys really don't have a problem with regulations; you just have a problem with Obama doing the regulating.

The 2-mile-deep exploratory well, Ixtoc I, blew out on June 3, 1979 in the Bay of Campeche off Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico. The water depth at the wellhead site is about 50 m (164 feet). By the time the well was brought under control in March, 1980, an estimated 140 million gallons of oil had spilled into the bay. The Ixtoc I spill is currently #2 on the all-time list of largest oil spills of all time.

You are correct Sucks. It is not Obamas fault. I'll give you that. Nobody said do not regulate. The problem is that they need to enforce the current regulations before they add more. Obama is pushing his agenda. (Health Care)

Sucks. Did I say death panels. No I didn't. I said the "Health Care" bill that 70% of the country didn't want. I will say exactly what I intend to say.
