M5 Owners Car CRASHED While At Dealer For Service, Whole 'Lotta Problems!

M5 Owners Car CRASHED While At Dealer For Service, Whole 'Lotta Problems!
Wow, it doesn't get much worse than this.

Not only did a dealership undertake an M5board member's BMW for a service appointment but they also wound up taking over a whole lot more when they destroyed the vehicle during a "test drive."

One of the dealership's 20-year old technicians took the vehicle out during this "test" and this was the end result.

Long story short, the original dealer said that the fix would be $2,500 without paint. And anyone who has ever had an incident with a BMW knows that may cover the cost of a bumper and headlights. This seemed a bit more in depth than that.

Knowing this, the original owner took the car to another BMW dealer who said that damage was a worse. A lot worse. To the tune of $14,000 in parts and another $16,000 in labor.

We're going to sit back on this one and just let it play out but we want to know, do you trust your dealership NOW?

00R caught some flack when he questioned this over the weekend...

An M5board member took his 2007 BMW M5 to a Texas-based dealership for a regular service appointment. A few hours later, the owner gets a call from the dealership which informs him that the M5 went through an accident. They stated that their tech took the car for a test drive and slid into a curb at 20 mph.

The wheel cracked, tire blown, front end needs a new paint job and the strut was cracked open. This was the official story...

My thing is how did this happen Im sure this 20 year old dude wasnt ready for the power that was in store for him. so he took a test drive/joy ride in it and instead of him cheking the car the car checked him cause he didnt know how to handle it. thats the only way something stupid like this would happen

I'm not even sure $30K is even enough. You have to figure in the depreciation hit after the major wreckage to this car.

That is a dealer/shop manager mistake. No was a 2o year old child should be a technician and be allowed to take an 80k customer car for a "test" ride int he first place. The dealership assumed liability for the car when they took it and placed it in the hands of their agent. So the dealership will pay. They would hae to produce another M5 or at the very least a new 550i or we'd be in a court room.

I don not blame the boy cause I had that age. I blame the one that gave that resposability to a boy full in hormones...

Inline6: If that was my car.....Just other M5 could replace it. Now I understand your point....But when I was young I did several stupid things and now I drive very well. Let's see the correct perspective: Let supose that you have the oportunity to put your hands in an SL65 Black Series, are you sure that could resist the temptation ?. The boy should pay for the act, but the one giving him that posibility also should be responsible. If you have an M5....you know that a lot of people will attempt to "Test" it..so my recommendation for all of you..: Do an apointment with your dealer and take the car for service at the scheduled date and TIME..cause all of you are very bussy people and wait till the maintenance is done. If it is big repair and I can not wait, I pay attention to the odometer, dents and scratches and try to talk with the person that will take care of your car, but even in that case trust no one , so pass by, to check the progress of the work.

This is why i get to know my service advisors and techs really well. And I typically wait for my car, no matter how long the service takes. The owner deserves a new M5 in my opinion. No questions asked.

No matter how well the cars repaired, it'll never be the same!

I think the Dealership owner needs to get involved. A new car is no doubt in order. If the damage isn't as bad as they say, they shouldn't mind then repairing the car and purchasing it from the victom and selling it on their used car lot to recoup their loss.
