Toyota Now Planning To Market A Four Door FT-86?

The born-again Sprinter is definitely a coupe and now there will be a four-door sedan for Toyota showrooms.  Even though sedans are not popular in Japan - with the exception of the car sold as the Lexus IS200 and Toyota Altezza - Toyota can see serious potential in a global car from the FT-86.

The loyal Altezza customers are one reason why, according to a source close to Toyota, the sedan has been given the go-ahead. It also helps that the basics are available and easy to tweak for four-door work.

In truth, using the FT-86’s platform for a sports sedan is a kind of insurance policy to cover any potential shortfall FT-86 sales.  At the same time, it makes the most of the rare rear-drive platform.

@ 4wheelsfan

So do you think Toyota would engineer a platform for the sole basis of one model? I'm sure this platform is capable of producing a more than adequate sedan. Hell, if Toyota put some money into tuning, it could be a great sleeper sedan.

Looks like a generic IS250... but then again the IS isn't bad looking at all.

true, but this was build as a coupe, the IS as a sedan. Completely different cars!

What do they mean 'rare rear-drive platform'? This is a garbled Subaru Imprezza using its AWD chassis.

I like it.

A sedan would be a great entry into the segment. I like the photoshop up top, but that design won't work unless only things you put in the back-seat were pre-junior high school kids, pets or groceries.

Toyota should bite the bullet and make this platform the basis of the next Corolla. They should make one version the corporate business car version and a sport-tuned version with a true manual option.

I called the Altezza sedan if they decide to make it.

Very, Very Nice!!! Now watch Toyota ruin it with poor handling, weak power, and crappy brakes.

Small, sharp and sports sedan. I hope the production model looks very close to the rendering above.

I'll say it's rumor. But, if 911's got a useless backseat, why not for this thing as well?

First it was a small 2 door sports car at a price range that many were interested in. Then it became essentially a Toyota Solara with their wording and offerings.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the 2012 Toyota Camry Coupe!" Seems like they are making it more a VW Pasatt CC.

Or would that be Camry GT hatch.
