STUD or DUD: Is The 2011 Dodge Durango Going To BURY The 2011 Ford Explorer?
Although we have known that Dodge was going to be putting out an all-new, competitive sport-utility vehicle, we never thought it would be this intriguing.
After all, did you see the
last
Durango?
Couldn't hold a candle to this vehicle. I wonder if the Italians had anything to do with its styling because it is quite clean looking, as opposed to a catastrophe.
This makes its battle with the 2011 Ford Explorer pretty interesting. I mean, the Ford should have fuel economy on its side, while the 2011 Durango will have grunt, power and whatever else Chrysler can do.
At the end of the day though, we want to know...

This has 3 rows. IIRC the Jeep does not.

How is this SUV a POS in your vast knowledge of engineering excellence? Please enlighten us before you make general comments.

Not exactly a stud, not exactly a dud, more like "meh."
In spite of the unibody construction the Dakota is really more of a traditional SUV than a Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) like the Chevy Traverse or the new redesigned 2011 Ford Explorer.
While there will probably be some people who cross-shop the 2011 Dakota with the Explorer, Traverse and Acadia, most buyers won't. Most buyers will go for a CUV such as an Explorer, Traverse and Acadia because of the more car-like nature of those vehicles and because of the better gas mileage.
Still, if you really do need a traditional SUV, the Dakota is a great choice in the ever-shrinking field.

This is going to guzzle fuel, and why? It can't go off road, It may as well be more car like like the traverse or the Acadia, there is nothing truck like here, although probably good towing ability.

Well let's see; it's this, the Explorer, or the mobile yawns from toyota and honda. Easy choice, unless youre a dumb lemming like typical jap buyers.

I like the the way the 2011 Ford Explorer looks and the build quality is, from what I hear, pretty solid. The reason I've purchased Japanese in the past is build quality but I would love to support Ford IF the car drives nicely and the build quality impresses me. I rented a Ford Fusion on a recent trip and was suitably impressed.

Its a stud for me. I love the mugginess of it. It really "provoke that manly appearance. I don't know about you guys and girls, but I'm down for it.

Surprisingly good looking. However, waiting to see if they can turn their long term reliability around. Which is not likely to happen as long as the labor union's have their claws in there.

You haters have a bug up your ass, this SUV looks brilliant. I hope it handles as good as it looks, cuz if it does, watch out Exploder.
