Expedition and Explorer drivers defecting over to the new Tahoe?

Tahoe sales were up over 30% in April and dealers tell the Spies that a good percentage of buyers were conquested from Ford products, namely the Expedition and Explorer.

Expedition sales were down 33.4% and Explorer sales were down by 42.1%.

Makes sense to us because the new Tahoe is better than both Ford products and it gets better mileage.

Not by much but better.

Plus the Tahoe is way bigger than the Explorer.

Glad the GM upper MNGMT is filly getting their heads out of their A**** and using some of that technology they been developing and just storing away. GM is on a terror and will remain #1 if they can get a marketing team worth a damn.

GMs commercials are so lame, they show the SUV then the Name and thats it. No mention of DOD or improved mpg...etc.

Everyone says Tahoe is taking off like hotcakes, however the dealership near my house has had the same Tahoes sitting there for at least a month.... I have seen one move. (I don't like them really, but the Black Color on them makes it look very expensive for some reason). I looked at a white one there when the first came out and yes it was an improvement over the old one by far, however I really wonder if by this time next year the momoentum will have slowed and everyone that wanted one has one now for 60+ months and I am curious to see its sales then.

I see your point on the leg room and etc. But I think this is where GM left the door open. Unfortunately they always have and always will leave room for improvements even on a brand new car. That’s the way you keep selling cares. GM put out all these new improvements on this 2007 which was a big jump for them and finally there caught back up with this line. I believe GM will improve there Full Size SUV in a couple of years with more leg room and etc. Right now though when people are picking between a nice Tahoe and a nice Expedition the Tahoe is going to win with the gas mileage and other improvements. I think the Expedition gets about 12/13 – 15/16 and the Tahoe gets 17/18 – 20/21. That’s a big difference. Now GM needs to step up there technology on other products.

I have not driven the new Tahoe, so dismiss everything i write here.

It appears that GM made substantial improvements. Reviews i have read place it far ahead of Ford in most objective measures. If Ford can scrape together enough money, it will answer back, but for now, the GMT900 chassis appears to be the best choice for a full-size utility vehicle.

That said, unless you tow a trailer, why in the world would you buy such a vehicle? There are numerous choices out there that will carry about as much cargo and/or people, perform better, cost less, and also achieve better fuel economy. The question really is, can your fragile ego allow you to cart your kids around in an Odyssey or Caravan?
