Hyundai Sonata racing to the top of U.S. sales charts, takes on Honda Accord
After August sales in the US were tallied, it was revealed that the Hyundai Sonata ranked third in the midsize car category. First place still went to the Toyota Camry while Honda Accord came in second. To achieve this feat, Sonata beat the sales of Nissan Altima, Chevrolet Malibu and Ford Fusion. When ranking the sales of all vehicles sold in the US, the Sonata got the 6th place, its highest ranking ever.

I really do like the look of the new Sonata. I think Hyundai nailed this design.

I like it to, but I think it will just be another bland car after a year or so. But I think the sales numbers will continue to rise at least for another year or 2.

Love it. Nice to see a worthy sedan climbing the charts. I doubt the lemmings keeping #1 and #2 in first and second place will give up their yawnmobiles anytime soon, so the Sonata'll probably keep leeching buyers from other sedans (all of which are superior to the #1 and 2).

Very impressive, It even has 5 star crash results all around, they have to boost the power to match the competition, although not far behind here, the price and style may make up the difference.

They have a turbo option that is around 260hp if I am not mistaken. Not sure I am correct about the power but it is up there. still gets 33 or 34 mpg. being a lightweight 4 cyl with matching or besting the power of the competitors V6 engines it should do well.

It very easy to move up the ladder when are you have to do is copy and paste other company design. And then sell it for a much lower price. Save a lot of and money as well ; - )

Seriously? What other car designs do you see when you look at the Sonata?

I've been seeing Sonata's everywhere recently. I'm certainly noticing them more than Camcords, but that's probably just because the style stands out more (which is a good thing).

Soon they will blend in just like camry's and accords. Will be too many of them on the road to stand out.

Originality is the art of concealing your sources. First the germans copied the americans, then the japanese copied the germans, then the koreans copied the japanese. So what's new? Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.

@91z4me,

I was refering to the brand itself as a whole company. Every auto company copy from each but their other models is just a copy and paste of other brands design.

Selling a car for less isn't always effective. Otherwise why did Saturn go out of business huh?

And to add to my comment isn't Suzuki less expensive than Hyundai and Kia? Why can the hardly sale over 1000 units a month then?

To huu76,

"Honda is smaller than Hyundai yet they managed to make more money."

Yes you are right Honda is ranked number 7 and Hyundai is recently ranked number 5 in the world. But, Honda is trying to make more money and has decided to go on a differnt vision for their company. However, Hyundai has decided for the past two years to dedicate their time and money to ridiculous amount of Research and Development and Marketing strategies to boost its image and quality. And you know what? It worked! They are on a roll! The brand has increased in reverance, their cars are award winning, their sales has sky rocketed. Their profits has doubled ad even quadrippled! Check out their profits for each quater.

"Why not ask why all of Korea's car companies combined are still smaller than Toyota and they can't outsell them considering the US gov't tried its best and failed"

What are you talking about? Toyota is Number 1 car company in the world. Hyundai and Kia has just started to move up and each year has increased market share. Hyundai is bigger than all the car companies in Japan except Toyota. Again, they are ranked umber 5 in the world.

"Saturn went out of business because GM didn't market it right. Should have come over as Opel (import fighter dropping the import name and coming up with a domestic name instead, genius). Their original designs also sucked."

Toyota is in trouble too.. SCIO is going out of buisness with only 26,000 units sold to date as oppose to 90,000 a year ago. Toyota isnt as original as you think.. FACT CHECK, THe new 2011 Avalon was designed by using the Hyundai Genesis as their benchmark (CHeck motortrend for fact)

Sounds like someone has been drinking too much cry baby juice.

To huu76,

"In Canada, Hyundai is offering 0% for 36-84 months (that's 7 years!)."

This is business.... most car companies are offering incetives and 0% in the United States.. There is a recession... this is competition.. you do what you can to make money.. HYundai is doing what normal competitive businesses are doing in the United States.. Hyundai has been obviously doing something right if Forbes, wall street, business weekly etc has praised the agressive business tactics and marketing strategies.

Huu get a life !! Act like an asian. Shut the f. up and make money. That's the Asian mentality in case you forgot. Leave the bitching and whining to the rest of the world that can not manufacture shit. Make Money to support your family and drive whatever car you wish, be it from England or India. That's how Korea got out of the shithole they were for 50 years. That's how the rest of Asia is moving out of poverty. Who cares who copies who, or is the first in this or that. Hyundai is cashing in and you're NOT !

Huu76 where you from La La Land? You still in the 1994 Kia Sephia years huh Huu76? I guess you think Apple still sucks too huh? That's alright though, Hyundai/Kia must be doing something right that Scion, Saturn, Suzuki and Mitsubishi can't do.

You don't want to mess with me Huu76 when it comes to designs. I can get cars from Acuras to Volvoos. From sedans, to coupes to CUVS and even SUVS. You want to challenge me? You seem to hate Korean cars but you ain't saying nothe about the Cruze and the Aveo. You ain't saying nothing about the Camero's design coming from S. Korea. You ain't saying nothing about GM brands selling over in S. Korea.

Obviously you are not a car enthusiast. The Toyota Avalon is Newly designed for 2011 and benchmarked the 2009 Hyundai Genesis.

For a price of about $20,000, Hyundai Sonata offers a combination of Bluetooth and XM radio

transmission in the class of affordable midsized cars in the base models! Its look is modern,

yet the controls and handling are superior and really easy to understand without the need to

use the manual..Despite being a four engine powertrain, this car beats all the V6 engine

sedans as it delivers high performance and great fuel efficiency!
