2011 Lexus CT200h rated by EPA at 42 mpg
Lexus announced today the details of the 2011 CT 200h production version. All of you folks waited the technical details, so here they are: the car is powered by a 1.8-liter 98 hp (73kW VVT-i) gas engine but also by an 80 hp (60 kW) electric motor, in order to deliver a total output of 134 hp (100kW).

With these numbers, the CT 200h can accelerate to 60 mph in just 9.8 seconds, and has a combined EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 42 mpg. As expected, the new car generates less NOx and zero particulate emissions compared to an equivalent diesel engined vehicle.

Probably not in Sport Mode, but the rating is impressive nevertheless.

All we need to know is the price, and we'll know if it will be a flop or not....

1.8L VVT-i. That is the same engine I have in my 2005 Matrix with 140hp. Must be really de-tuned which I thought was completely impossible since my car is already a HUGE nemic.

I still like the design a lot in this car. But it so badly needs a non-hybrid version with a turbo 4 and stick.

Not VVT-i for the hybrids, they run the atkinson cycle for better fuel mileage. The torque curve for the drive-train is wholly different from a regular car as its an electric motor that kicks in or vice versa (an ICE that kicks in) :)
Bet they have an interestingly tuned right foot response.

I guess the positive is that it CAN hit 60 mph...

Gotta love how the EPA sucks up to Toyota/Lexus so badly. It's not even amusing anymore.

Thats pretty darn sweet. Same 0-60 as the Euro spec Mx-5. Though hardly a speed demon, it could be a fun luxe hatch. Wonder how they have tuned the FWD handling, if its as fun as how the initial testers say its a sweet ride.
Looking forward to this.

Like the design. It is easily better than the BMW 1 coupe and A3.

jugnu:

looks just like a mazda 3 but the mazda has cleaner lines and is larger. see link below.

this ugly thing doesn't match the 1-series for design and comes nowhere NEAR the clean-lined, tasteful A3.

let's review: it's slower than a prius, uglier than a prius, gets less MPG than the prius, and costs MORE than the prius.

so what, exactly, is the point of this car? and who is the target buyer?
