Is There Room For A Diesel Bentley?

Is There Room For A Diesel Bentley?
If you were crossing your fingers for a diesel Bentley, you're probably not going to get your wish. Granted, I do not believe that many people even conceived of such a heinous thought.

That seems like taking a perfectly tailored Zegna suit and sewing on a few patches, it just ruins the whole thing.

Additionally, a Bentley executive says that there is a prejudice in the U.S. and China against diesel powerplants. While we disagree, since Audi's TDI program has seen huge success in The States, we may buy the China comment. Especially, when the executive goes on to say that China will be playing a major role in Bentley's future.

That kind of is an emerging theme for any luxury player.

Hopes that a big diesel will appear under the bonnet of a production Bentley are likely to be dashed, according to company bosses.

Chairman and CEO Franz-Josef Paefgen admitted some time ago that Bentley had experimented with diesels and found them impressive, but adverse market conditions make the move unlikely, the company now says...

In the words of Bill Cosby "There's always room for diesel." Or something like that.

To whom will it appeal? How many Bentley customers are looking at a 3-ton car equipped with a 6 liter multiple-turbocharged W-12 engine, and saying to themselves "Y'know, I'd buy one it only it were available with a planet-saving diesel engine."? I speculate the number is close to zero.

I don't see anything wrong with it. If a SLR was a diesel powered monster people still would have liked it and the Arab's would probably win with that added torque.

Diesel's can still be quiet. It's not like the W12 is emotionless.
