Most of these cars, probably like 90 percent, are rental cars.

Well Gert I would not call the autos on the list heaps of trash just because they are not German autos. Of course German autos are not on list because they are also not cheaper econo cars, but majority luxo cars. I also fail to see any Japanese luxo autos on the list as well.

if german cars were as common as the cars on the list they would still have the same appeal because you cannot get tired of beauty and class. in germany the list would read mb bmw audi vw etc. even the average cab is an mb e class and what a nice ride from the airport to hotel it is instead of your crown vic boat ride.too many people in this country still have a poor immigrant, i;m so happy i survived the atlantic crossing, i;m allright jack, we don;t need any of that fancy stuff around here mentality and that;s why they are such easy targets for unloading enormous quantities of crap like what;s on the list . for cryin' out loud, anyone with decent credit can lease a cert, preowned 3 series for $i99 a month. that's less than what most people spend at starbucks.

These are real numbers. Something the press and the whiners do not like especially since it shows American cars and trucks are still selling very well. Yes some of the cars are rentals but you can also rent many foreign cars. Trucks, everybody with common sense knows that the American trucks are built well and stand up to the punishment that is inflicted on them. German cars are nice. Not as nice as a Cady in my opinion but you don’t see Cadys up there either. Bottom line. None of them are Hyundai or Kias and you get what you pay for. This list shows me that people try to get the best quality for the buck. Not everybody can afford a Beemer or a Cady.

When your kids, and grandkids don't have jobs you'll wonder what happened to America. It is your lack of support of American industry. products, and services that is killing their future right now. Be proud of yourselves.

Stats are from JD Powers and Automotive News. It elaborates on the list autospies posted. It will give you a more accurate understanding of the numbers.

I'm looking for reliable numbers from Europe. Stay tuned.........

i love how ppl expect us (americans) to settle for CRAP just because buddy joe next door may lose his job.

what's an american car company anyways? aren't Chevy, Ford and Dodge all founded by european immigrants? (correct me if i'm wrong)

HEY!! maybe that explains why American AND European cars suck!

btw, if my offspring do decide to work in the auto industry i'm sure they'd be smart enough to work for a winner like Toyota.

yeah, i said it. :-D

American cars are fine, its your elitist attitude that is ruining this country. With your brains like yours your kids will probably be janitors in the Toyota plant, wait, the illegal aliens will probably take those from them. Illegals probably do a better job than you anyway. Your name says it all.

Racist pig if I have ever heard one. He burns american cars and you say that his future children are idiots and his name, being Japanese, shows this? Go back to your cave! Have you been to Japan? Japan exemplifies why Americans like YOU are such losing idiots! Comparing American cars to Toyota/Lexus cars is easy for somebody with any kind of taste for quality. At least Toyota and Honda will build their cars in USA. The americans just build them in Mexico and the hell with it.... Uninformed and ignorant; typical of a racist! Why don't you makeout with a pig!

No need to argue over who makes the best car, US vs. Japan, Japan vs. European, etc. For example, Porsche makes around 25,000 cars in an entire year. No way they could make the list. There were only about 3500-4000 5 series BMWs sold in the U.S. in 2004. Its not going to make the list. I want to see a list of which manufacturer had the least amount of excess inventory at the end of the model year. That list would be interesting.
Hey Z064ever, why don't you find some redneck car forum to join so you can talk with your other white trash friends about inefficient, outdated pushrod V-8s. Oh, and I'll have a job in 30 years because I'm an importer and business is booming. Thanks go to all of the Unions who have negotiated $35/hr. to tighten a bolt on an assembly line. Keep up the good work.

BUT. This list says what the top 20 selling cars are. The answers are correct, but the question is pointless and misleading.

Personally, I wouldn't want a best-selling car without it having appeal. A Porsche has appeal, therefore moving its inventory quickly. An F150? Utilitarian. Not many people will buy one unless they absolutely need it for tasks. You don't buy a Porsche for that reason... I say, "who gives a rat's behind about this poll... ?"

Since when was Renault, Citroen, Peugeot, SEAT, Skoda, FIAT available in the USA?

This is an American list, notice all the domestics?

And Yakamoto, since when did European cars suck? I see your bias, but since when did basic transportation become so amazing?

And most American cars are crap. Fisher-Price interiors and outdated engines don't exactly bode well in the 21st century. We are in 2006, aren't we?

And did you know the Z06 has a push-rod engine, leaf-spring suspension and a floor made of balsa wood?

Go rub two sticks together.

I will grant you that most American cars are crap but are slowly getting better. If you read the rankings from JD Powers and Consumer Reports it is fortunate that the German Cars like BMW and Mercedes are not selling in numbers comparable to these top 20 vehicles. With their pathetic reliability ratings, there would not be enough repair shops on earth to keep them on the road.

HyundaiHyundai - 5/6/2006 12:41:23 PM

Can't we all get along? German cars are not crap. They are all very nice. There are some exceptions though, of course, like some VWs and the 7-Series of 2004 and around there, and the E class (which is a really nice car).

Personally, I wouldn't buy a German car until they get their electronic gremlins out of the way and the steering pump on the 7 series stops exploding.

Also... until the 3 series interior stops being so ugly, goes back to the old version, and the ergonomis stop sucking. I am a buttons person. I can't stand the lack of buttons in there. Am I nuts, or is there anybody out there that agrees? The ergonomics on the Lexus IS are damn near perfect!

Still though, nothing beats the style, substance, feel, and sound of a European sports car (excluding BMW out of the mix)! (waiting for the LF-A)

I think everybody in this site knows, that
i am not an english and nor i live in US,thats why my english is poor,so what this is not an english site,it's a cars site.Knowledge of cars is more important than English here.
And it's Ok, i can understand you all and u all also can understand me.
And do u have some problem for this.
U just read my comment, and don't check my grammer, style of writing or spelling...etc
just look for the information in it.

hugo,i wasn't expecting this from u,i thought u don't give importance to all this secondary things and focus more on cars here.

"I really want American cars to be at the top"

"your English is terrible"

"I suspect that you don't even live in the United States".

Welll, these lines have said a lot about u.

Contimath means Mathew and Contiroane.
It is only one person with different screen names.
