Do You Believe Them? Volkswagen Says It Will TRIPLE Sales In The Next 8 Years
Volkswagen AG, seeking to triple American sales in eight years and to assemble vehicles here for the first time since the 1980s, named a former U.S. auto executive as head of its U.S. operations.

British-born Jonathan Browning, 51, a former General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. executive, will succeed Stefan Jacoby, who announced in June that he was leaving VW to run Volvo for China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co.

Add more diesel to the US lineup, introduce the Polo to the US, bring the new R hatch over, introduce a new small sedan (Jetta) since you moved that to Nissan Altima size. The pickup truck Amarok is on it's way and who knows, maybe they will get smart and bring back the MicroBus instead of rebadging a Chrysler T&C. It's possible.

I just hope that with the VW expansion that their products don't suffer from being too watered down. I'm afraid that the new Jetta might be a victim of this.

with the US factory things will only get better. I never thought that our Lexus franchises would be suffering and VW making all the $$

Guess they plan on buying 3x the number of companies they have now.

They only sell just over 200,000 vehicles a year in the usa... compare that to gm's 2,000,000 sales or Toyota's 1,800,000 sales in the usa I see a tremendous potential for growth. All they need to do is get rid of the "european" price tag and they can be tremendously successful.

It is doable if they offer a mix of mainstream products like the new Jetta and upcoming mid size sedan and some exciting nich products like the TTRS. Maybe somebody should suggest to Mr. Browning that the Scirocco should be built in Puebla and exported here or the supposed Bluesport midengined roadster. VW needs a halo car for their division at least. They are already talking about expanding Porsche to 150,000 cars a yr with Porsches version of the Bluesport Roadster and a new front engined coupe based on the Panamera. Also if Porsche restyled the Panamera at the rear it would probably improve sales above the 23,000 the've already sold. It's only amatter of time before they offer a sub Panamera sedan. They are already going to offer a sub Cayanne SUV.They seem to be on track.

Only if they sell a pickup truck here.

Well its totally believable. Especially if you see it as worldwide phenomenon and NOT US specific .
Why ?
1) Buyout of Suzuki (It currently has 20% stake purchased for $2.5 Billion) which will hand it the Indian market as Suzuki has close to 50% of the car market.
2) With Mitsubishi tying up with (potentially) PSA Peugeot Citroen it leaves Mazda as a the only mid size manufacturer with no cover. Especially if one looks at the potential investment needed to get into the electric/hybrid market and next gen of cars If VW eats up Mazda too . It will have a great coverage for platform sharing especially to drive down cost for it VW Golf platform.
3) China - VW is poised to rake in its advantage in the Chinese market as it the fasted growing AND biggest market (approx 15 million) while their weakest market (US) is set to close lower than 12 million.
4) Toyota is getting hammered by its Yen exposure, its bet on the US instead of China has gone horribly wrong. Lack of manufacturing diversification is killing its cheaper cars as currently they can even afford to build the next gen Corolla in Japan .
