THIS MEANS WAR! Toyota wants Ford truck loyalists

Toyota, which remains a distant fourth in U.S. trucks sales behind Detroit's Big Three, is trying to rope in buyers with a taste of the Tundra in hopes they will trade up after new models hit dealer lots in January.

Nabbing a Ford loyalist such as Arizola is key as Ford remains the dominant truck brand in Texas. It's led the country in sales for 29 straight years and sells more pickups in a year in Texas than Toyota sells in the entire country.

Well think about this. If people are willing to shell out more money for the same basic truck but in a different trim; it is not only smart thing to do, but very profitable. Think SR5.

Hmmmmm...again Toyota made its name from their past by making very simple underpowered motors that lasted a long time thus built a reputation of reliability (i.e. R22 Motor, great reliability if maintained, but good luck hauling anything over 500lbs on any slope). Toyota is going away from that (same with Camry and other models) and making the Tundra as well as Tacoma larger and more intricate. <br>

Tundra is a good truck, but from what I have seen first hand I am not impressed. I am more impressed with the Tacoma even though it has more recalls (30 in 10 years) Tundra had 13 recalls in 6 years (Mechanical and electrical). Latest F150 has 10 recalls in 3 years (mostly electrical probs).<br>

Toyota defintely wants to try to gain market share. As well as Nissan and Honda. The plan is to gain enough market share to make the Domestic automakers suffer from their bread and butter. If the light truck was not so popular in the States GM and Ford would be soooo screwed! That is why the best built trucks really are American and probably better built and more reliable then most domestic cars.

Honda is more of a Niche kinda-sorta truck and out of the Big Japanese 3 I would currently get the Titan. I am still very interested in peeking at the new Tundra, BUT the local Toyota dealership hates it when I bring my nice F250 to the lot and customers gawk. This happens when they service my Scion.
