Hyundai Prices 2011 Genesis Coupe R-Spec: Should The G37 Be Worried?

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec priced at $26,750 will arrive at dealerships across the country this fall. R-Spec takes the core performance equipment from the 3.8 Track model and eliminates non-essential convenience equipment to reduce its weight by 68 pounds and price by $4,000. The 3.8 R-Spec allows enthusiasts to use that $4,000 to tune their own car to their desired specifications.

The 3.8 R-Spec is now the most affordable 3.8-liter V6 model in the Genesis Coupe lineup. R-Spec performance features include track-tuned suspension, 19-inch gunmetal-finish alloy wheels with performance summer tires, Brembo® braking system, Torsen® limited-slip differential and R-Spec badging. To achieve the $4,000 savings R-Spec 3.8 eliminates metalgrain accents, automatic headlights, cruise control and chrome interior accents. Shoppers will not find a sunroof or rear spoiler on an R-Spec. In a special nod to tuners, R-Spec will also receive a set of front strut camber adjustment bolts (dealer installation required) to further enhance initial turn-in and handling response. Appropriately, the 3.8 R-Spec will be available in four exterior colors most common among international racing teams:  Karussell White, Bathurst Black, Interlagos Yellow and Tsukuba Red. R-Spec comes with manual transmission only.

The Genesis Coupe lineup has also been simplified to six well-differentiated models. Navigation with Fully Automatic Temperature Control is now standard on Genesis Coupe 2.0T Premium.

LOL, no the G37 has nothing to worry about. The G37 is on a different level and battles it out with the 3 series. The Genesis needs to stick to trying to compete with the base Mustangs, Eclipses, and eventually the Toyota coupe.

I will say this the G37 has nothing to worry about RIGHT NOW....but If Hyundai stays on this track it will in about 5 years because the current Genesis coupe is fire and you get more for your money with the Genesis its crazy because Hyundai is not a luxury entity and they are being compared with some of the BIG WIGS out there. I just say this I used to not like ANYTHING about Hyundai but they have definitley changed my mind in the last year or so because if this is hot now the next gen you know is going to get even better where Infiniti may need to watch there back

Those are the two longest run-on sentences....smh

No, it shouldn't be. The G37 seems to be a phenominal car and if I was buying one, the only car I would cross shop it with is the 3 series, as it is it's only real competition.

so let me see if I understand this thread -- Hyundai makes an already less expensive Genesis coupe even less expensive and more racy, by removing whatever "luxury and convenience" items they can, and you're asking if a vehicle that was barely a competitor before should be worried? No, of course not. If G37 buyers wanted racy and didn't care about the luxury and convenience items they wouldn't get a G37 in the first place, they'd get a 370Z. The only way the G37 is affected at all by what Hyundai does with the Genesis coupe is if Hyundai comes out with a nicer version of the car, not a decontented one.

really? A bare bones performance package that costs less then the standard model? Haha about time somebody did that. Too bad their is no accompanying performance mode button to tweak the ecu for extra power/poorer fuel economy.

No, but Ford & Chevy should. The target audience for this coupe is not G37 or even 370Z owners. Hyundai is going after Mustang & Camaro buyers. The Genesis Coupe offers close enough performance of the V-8 models at V-6 pricing and more "professional" styling.

Though it may happen on the low end, people who are in the market for a G37 are cross-shopping BMW 1 & 3 series, C-Class, A4's, IS and 370Z

uhm... I really like the 370z... in fact I am strongly considering it to be my next purchase... but I am not cross shopping with it between the 1&3 series, c-class, is or a4... I'm cross shopping the Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Genesis Coupe. Why? Because a base 370z comes as a very nice package. And I am comparing it against those cheaper cars in fully loaded trim packages.

To be fair, I live on the West Coast. Before I bought my Z, I cross-shopped the G-series coupe and the BMW's. Most of the people I know also shopped these cars. No one even looked at the Genesis.

As for the Camaro and Mustang, though they have styling cues inspired from classic designs, neither of those two cars are classic designs. of the three: Challenger, Mustang or Camaro; the Challenger looks best to me.

I like it. I don't think the G37 has anything to worry about from a tuners point of view. However, It may have an effect on overall sales due to the Genesis competitive price.

huu76 - The Camaro and Mustang have classic designs, the Genesis is reminiscient of a 90s Celica.

It works for the Camaro and Mustang! Why can't Hyundai do it too? ha ha

And an Accord V6......dude put the pipe down. Nobody has ever associated an Accord Coupe/Sedan/Hatchback/Wagon/Crosstour a performance car. Just cuz you make a Folgers coffee your muffler doesn't change its classification....a family car.
