2012 Dodge Viper revealed to dealers, approved for production within 5 minutes
As you may know already, yesterday Chrysler began to reveal its new products and you could admire the new 2011 Chrysler 200, the 2011 Town & Country, the 2011 Jeep Patriot as we as the Fiat 500 Sport.

It appears that Chrysler had a meeting with the dealers today and showed no more than 17 new products in Orlando, Fla. The big surprise was the 2012 Dodge Viper which was revealed to the dealers in a concept form. Apparently the new generation of the sports car is amazing and was unanimously approved for production within 5 minutes.

Viper needs two things. Better handling and lower price. It needs to be better value for money and be real competition for the 'Vette and the 911 et al. Now I am a die-hard 'Vette fan, but Chrysler, and subsequently Ford should be able to match and exceed the offerings of anybody out there. Otherwise, what's the point, right?

Throw in a better interior and I would agree with you.

better handling? look at the ring times and all of the slower more powerful cars then it... Gumpert Appollo at 700hp (1.9s slower), Maserati MC12 at 632hp (2.19s), Zonda F at 650hp (2.55s), Enzo at 660hp (3.11s)... etc. etc.

joe, comparing independent laptimes with factory claimed laptimes is extremly stupid. independent sources like "sport auto" use stock cars with stock tires without stiffness enhancing cages for "safety" reasons (like dodge or gm did for example)

gumpert apollo 700 hp: 7:11,57

it literally vaporized the viper and everything else. you should also mention that "sport auto" wasn't any quicker than 7:38 in a zr1, which is 14 seconds slower than their gumpert time (the 7:24 you've mentioned). i guess the ACR wouldn't be that much quicker than the ZR1.

enzo, mc12? these cars are hypercars without any doubt, but they're more than half a decade old. even a 458 is as fast as an enzo around mugello nowadays.

If you are basing a decision on buying a Viper off of the interior, then you should walk away. It's a V10 sports car from America. Not some plush and quaint little Porsche. Raw, loud, power.

Moving on, the looks are awesome, pretty much what the last generation should have looked like instead of them going with an S2000 look. The original Viper GTS still holds a place in my heart.

"plush and quaint little porsche"

do your homework before trolling around! porsche builds the most successfull racecar in history. a gt3 or gt2, let alone the rs versions, don't have anything in common with plush, they smoke their american counterparts in a pipe. quaint? mhhh, strange why do i have to think about cheap and miserably build low-tech cars with dinosaur tech when i hear this word?
